Ben: I replaced some badges/hardware and kept the original hood insignia. It has sat in my office drawer ever since, just as one small piece of motivation.
But I like Vancouver's answer better! The 70's definetly were different.

Yeah, but we're talking about a 356 here, not some rust bucket from the 70s.

That's great that you were able to hold on to it all these years. Every time you looked at it or handled it, it probably brought back fond memories.

Heyyyyyyy, I think we have here the foundation for another memorable Porsche commercial!!!

My grandfather was the Porsche dealer in Tallahassee, FL. I was raised by my grandparents. I spent my afternoons staring at and drooling over Porsches. I couldn't WAIT to be able to drive, because I knew I would access to some of the greatest cars in the world. And then he sold the dealership when I was 14. I had more Porsche memoribilia than you could shake a stick at. A month before my 28th bday, I bought my current 1987 944S. 14 years and not a day went by that I didn't KNOW that I would own one. And now begins the lifelong, uphill run of upgrading. A Boxster is next on the list.

excellence a few months back had a story about a guy who had a early 60's 356 - anyways long story short the license plate frame kicked around for about 20 years after it was sold to the mechanic, the guy spent several years bugging the mechanic, finally got it home and his dad goes "It looks a lot like my 356" and the guy goes "It IS your 356"
kind of a neat story.

Do you remember which issue? I have all of my back issues and don't remember that article. Sounds like a good read I missed.
