Default Plastic valet key

Is this good for only opening the door since it won't immobilize the alarm? That means it would only be a help if you leave a key in the car. Anybody know the answer, not in the manual.

The emergency key should be able to start the vehicle. if it doesn't , your immobilizer needs to be programmed to accept it.

You should be able to start the car with plastic key. Either the key transponder is bad or your car is not programmed to accept it.

I read somewhere in Porsche literature (or else I'm going nuts) that the plastic key does all that the regular keys do but Porsche sez it's not to be used routinely because it's plastic and, unlike brass, won't hold up over time.

I didn't get a plastic key with my 997.
