If there is a bona fide MOST splice possible he'd have dozens of CA/AZ/NV 997 owners scheduling installs, and he'd do it 12 hours a day before the next hacker discovers the same method......which shouldn't be long, hoping Adam's court pre-trial docket looks something like this ...

Wow. Porsche really does make things complicated. I recognize that schematic diagram - - it's for the 997 dome light assembly.

We know you are, Adam. Just make sure you limit yourself to that one drink there when you're hacking away at that digital system. We wouldn't want you to hack off a digit or two!

OK, so ban the shots from the business, (blur out any signs etc) and warn the user that they need to pay for ad space.

In the mean time, no one in that area go and check out the work to see if it was legit and to advise he can get ad space here as well as help others by working with other trades on the east.

Oh wel, I guess we all miss out on this opportunity.

Anyone in that area want to verify the work and report back? Maybe we can get them to advertise.

I'm sure others have this same way of adding satellite in the same way or better. We all need to bring new tech to light for all to share!

Regards,
Deanski

WOW! I thought that I was going crazy last night looking for that SAT thread. Sponsor or not, this could potentially be a huge breakthrough for the 997 community and readers on this board should be informed. Maybe a simple mod response or "edit" could have kept the thread going? The individual has likely left the board at this point as I recall his posts to be only a few and he probably didn't know the rules and thought he was simply "sharing the great news".

Like many of you, I wanted SAT so bad when I purchased my car and am so turned off my the ugly after-market solutions. Hopefully some sponsor will have a solution this decade so we can all jump on the band wagon!

No, they do not, which is a major bone of contention for many folks here.

It is available on the Cayenne Turbo. Which makes me wonder if you can order the parts aftermarket and simply 'plug and play' into the MOST loop. I find it hard to believe that the sub-layer protocols and language on the MOST loop would be that different, if at all, amongst the various models.

Whatever that guy did had to be pretty simple. I can't buy into any solution where he built a 'black box' interface to speak the Porsche 997 MOST language. Sorry. No way he did that. What I think he did was find a compatible sat unit receiver, tap into the MOST loop, tap into the power grid, mount the antenna under the plastic piece below the wipers (I heard that is an ideal location), and "waa-laa" it worked. It, in theory, would be VERY easy to install. The MOST loop is in the trunk, where the control unit for the sat would mount, and where the antenna would mount, and where the power grid is located. Thus, it would all fit near the NAV unit / CD player with NO wires needed to go into the cabin area.

So we need to know where he got the parts that are compatible. Someone sent me a PM and said volkswagen XM / Sirrus parts (the "Toureag") are MOST compatible with Porsche. I tried to track that down with no luck so far. Maybe he actually used the Cayenne sat receiver if its available to order?

I agree, we need an undercover San Diego Board member to help us out. Anyone wanna go on an undercover mission?

Oh man, Adam. You are one desperate dude.

Did I just hear you say you'd like to commission an undercover operative to do some industrial espionage for you?

What's next, a hit on the guy if he doesn't cough up the details?

Not desperate........determined.

I refuse to believe that we cannot make this happen. In fact, I intend to go find a Cayenne with XM or Sirrus installed to look at the NAV display and under the 'hood'.

I am telling you this is not rocket science. Hooking into the MOST bus is simple. Finding the components is the trick. There are only so many possibilities out there.

A determined man on a mission. Sounds like you'll soon strike gold.

Yeah, rocket science I could help you with. This MOST stuff is beyond me.

I can imagine bringing the Cayenne back to the dealer after 3-hour 'test drive'...."uh, gee I don't know what happened, the radio just quit on me"

If it had XM or Sirrus and they really did give me a 3 hour test drive, I would pull out the sat radio and try it in the 997 (then replace it of course). You better believe it.

I don't know about the "replace it" part. ... Sounds like this is where you come up with the story about leaving the car unlocked for one minute and - bam! - just like that someone broke in stole the unit while you were inside buying a soda.

We are all missing the point. There is a reason why the vehicle does not come with this as an option. I am a waiter and prior to ordering I contacted PCNA and spoke to someone who was very nice but not in the know. Dealers do not know-somebody must know, so with that in mind I searched the Porsche web site looking for a name, address or email address-it was no help. So I went on the German Porsche website-found an email address and sent a short letter delineating the issue and intense demand. I will keep you "posted". It would be terrible for Cayenne owners to have 911 owners out there hijacking Cayenne parts.
