Default Engine Upgrade

I have 05 C2. Would like to move to an S. Is there possibility that our friends in Germany will make the current X51 option the standard for the S? How will we know? I would hate to buy an 07 just to see the horsepower get bumped in 08. I can easily live with my non S if it is possible/likely that we will see a power boost in 997s. Any guidance will be most appreciated. thanks

I don't think anybody here knows the answer to that $64,000 question. Only an insider I suppose.

There was much speculation on this very subject here not long ago. A search might prove helpful to you.

I'd love to know. If BMW M3 V8 is ready for '07 my hunch is that 997's will get a 15-20hp bump, maybe via new direct injection.
Although it would be uncharacteristic for Porsche to react to what the others mfrs are doing. Auto writers pedicted defections from Porsche 997 to the V10 M5 and the Aston V8 Vantage, don't know if that's materialized.

Porsche could add 20hp & keep their marketing pyramid in place,
Turbo at 480, if GT3 shows up with 415hp, the 997X51 already dyno's at 390+, could be coaxed for another 10 to get published 401.
S could go to 375 leave room for more later, C2 to 345 even just using old 3.6L X51 hardware...
or not.

the 911 series has gone from 299 horsepower in 1999 to a base HP of 325. why not expect the same gradual increase in the future?? 26 hp every 5 to 6 years

LOL .. Nahhh, it's just that there are some thin-skinned people who tend to take things the wrong way and get their feathers ruffled easily if I throw out the information they're looking for and it happens to hit them in the face (sorry for the mixed metaphors). I still like to be my helpful self (most of the time anyway) but now it seems I must take the time to couch my suggestions in a comfortable, PC like correct manner so as not to offend.

Where is that DAFS meanie waving the binoculars when you need him, huh?

It's not a $64,000 question, its a $16,000 question and the answer is almost certainly NO - At $16K a pop, PAG will be happy to offer X51 as an option for those who feel they need that extra HP.

what might help to answer the question is whether or not Porsche has had a history of increasing the hp during production of a given model type. e.g. did the 996/S keep the same hp throughout its reign, ...and so on and so forth.
Any longer-term officianados know????

OT: the new Gentle Ben,...can you 'bear' it Ben?

Hey, hey, hey. Don't trample over my figure of speech there.

Not that I'm retaliating here, but that figure is closer to $17k. ... $16.9k to be exact.

OT: Not bad Dave. (Not as good as your PCM talking to you.) I'll try to not let the grizzly bear come out as often.

Just buy when you're ready to buy. New model introductions may be worthwhile to wait for. facelifts and measley HP increases from Porsche are not. Face it, everybody gets outdated more sooner than later. Everything could be in shambles from bird flu or anthrax by the time Porsche adds 8-10 more HP to the 997/S
