I would go with a 997 even if it means waiting a bit longer. Just to many improvements both in looks and driving characteristics IMHO. I am assuming that it is for your everyday( or every sunny day) use and you are not planning to track your car.

OT - Have you driven an NSX? IMO anybody that likes the rawness of a 993 should take the time. It's more go-cart'ish by comparison and better in many peoples opinion. Worth trying out.
