When in Oregon I don't "pump" the gas,--but I do everything else to keep the guy from messing up. I open the flap, remove the gas cap, place it securely where it should be during the fill, and then hover over the attendant as he very cautiously inserts the fuel nozzle. I'm there during the whole operation and they don't dare screw up with me right there!

Oregon's been this way for years,--and it's not all that bad a policy when you consider how moronic some automobile owners are themselves (like talking on cell phones or smoking while filling their tanks...).

Try this little trick to avoid damaging the fender from drunken gas station attendants in NJ or OR:

Get an old rubber truck tube and cut out a piece that will fit around the fuel filler neck and unfolds to protect the fender from damage with the pump nozzle.

Griots Garage sells a nifty item that matches your description. Its called a "Paint Saving Fuelguard".

I use one on my BMW, but there isn't sufficient room to use one on the 997S. Maybe the homemade version from P9972S would work better!

Yep, same here. Actually a little over $6/gallon. In the US I was more or less smaling while filling up. Here the face is different.

I the US the octane number is to my knowledge reported at the fuel station as (RON+MON)/2.

RON = Research Octane Number

MON = Motor Octane Number

Good chance that in most European countries they report RON at the fuel station.
