Just opened the box on my new Escort 8500 - X50 that arrived. Started to flip through the owners manual when I saw the caution sign. Manual cautions that -A few vehicles (including some Porsches) have windshields with a soft anti-lacerative coating on the inside surface. Use of suction cups will permanently mar this coating. Consult your dealership or the vehicles owner's manual to determine if your windshiled has this coating.
Well, after a deep breath I grabbed the 997 manual and checked the index for reference to "anti-lacerative". Nothing. No warnings on windshields in the manual. Their was mention of a "water repellent (hydrophobic) coating which prevents soiling of the windows. The coating is subject to natural wear and can be renewed." This obviously is refering to exterior window coating.
Has anyone heard of "soft anti lacerative coating" on the 06 997? I suspect this might have been used on older models? Better yet, has anyone experienced problems from suction cups using the mount. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, but better safe than sorry. Thanks

From what I've heard on this forum it's fine to mount with the suciton cups. No one has had a problem to date. I have the same radar detector and use the cups to mount.
By the way, a great detector. Saved me several times this summer.

Would be nice, though, if someone KNEW why Porsche sells it's own version of "Inside Glass Cleaner"

Joey: I didn't have a problem with my 87 911 Cabrio - I mounted a Valentine One by suction cups just above the dash a few inches to the left of center. No problem cleaning up the windshield to new condition when sold.
But, come to think of it, the windshield was a new one, just a few years old.
