Statman, couldn't agree more.....but the tedious nature of a disassembly, mask, prep and reassembly is nerve-killing. Factory is better today than years ago, but the water based paints aren't what the oil based products were, so they are doing more with less, if you know what I mean.

What a great color! (But I noticed that they call it also "Jazz Blue Pearl Clearcoat." How is a 'pearl' not a metallic? Would it be available without the 'pearl?' Many thanks!
It's certainly now on my short list to include:
Talbot Blue (Talbo Lago)
Dark Blue (Ferrari)
Navy Blue (Porsche 80s)
McLaren Blue (new Gulf Blue)

Color! More than you wanted to ever know about color...

What a nightmare! I have learned more about COLOR in the last few days than I ever knew before,--and I thought I knew quite a bit.
I found a Ferrari race car that was done in that color--it's a darker blue to satisfy Porsche AG, but not so dark as to appear black. (In my town the sun is so bright that anything dark will look BLACK). I like it for it's unusual hue!
I also got feedback from Gulf Oil on what they use on their logo these days (both the orange and the dark blue) but feel it's just a touch too dark for me.
From that, however, I was reminded of how the graphics printing community defines colors,--by Pantone number and by RAL number. (The latter may be easier for Germany's PAG to relate to).
Here's a couple of useful links to better understand this stuff if someone is going for a unique color:
http://www.displaytime.com/RAL%20Colors.htm
http://www.ral.de/farben/en/
While I started out looking at the older "Gulf Blue" as we know it to be (aka RAL 6027) I also looked at Gulf Oil's trademark blue on their famous signs which are orange (see http://www.gulfoilltd.com/secure/col_sam.html) and now dark blue (aka RAL 5002, or Pantone 280 C).
I had found the color that I'm close to going with from Ferrari, as I mentioned at the beginning of all this. I think it's quite close to RAL 5021, aka Water Blue or Azure Blue, RAL 5009.
So,--I'm hoping it matches that one.

Oh stop stop!
Yea, I know. I think this is a very RECENT change at Porsche. Perhaps in the last 2-3 years. I'll bet that car is something darker than Gulf Blue and just inside their parameters. If I couldn't get the original, I made the shift to something else!
Thanks,
Dan

just have it painted whatever color you wish at a good bodyshop. i dont know what porsche charges for paint to sample colors, but i would be willing to bet that i could do it cheaper and have it turn out better
