Default What's up with all the used 997s?

Almost everyone on this Board seems to love their 997s, yet I see lots of them for sale. A relatively small Porsche Dealer near me, Valley Motors, has already had three 997s for sale, and I checked out Brandywine and they have seven. I wonder what these guys are buying and why they are willing to take the huge depreciation hit, especially when trading their cars in to Dealers.

When you think of all the cars sold a few for sale here and there is pretty normal. Ask the dealer why they turned their car in.

Porsche Driving Experience wholesales the 997's they use to dealers who then sell them as used cars, purportedly noted as having been used by PDE. I understand they are rotated with very low mileage. Also press cars and executive cars could make up part of the pool.

I asked my local dealer about why they get so many killer, low mileage 1-2 year old used cars in all the time. I was told there's a subset of Porsche buyers who flip their cars yearly, sometimes more often, and oftentimes on a whim.

I suppose if you have the means, then it's hard to take issue with such habits.

I just sold my 2005 997S with 7K miles. The best Porsche I ever owned. I am thinking of getting either an older 360 or a "new" F430.

I'm planning on trading mine in on a made to order '06 with X51 and a more trick color combo. That'll add one more Arctic Silver to the group.

Wow talk about car ADD! How can you drive a car less than 10,000 miles new, the depreciation makes that about 2 bucks a mile.

Do you think these cars have been broken in in accordance with the factory's recommendations in the owner's manual? lol.

There's a Dealer near me, Len Stoler, that has two '04 996 PDE cars. They are asking $74K for each of them. Well, these cars have been on their lot for over a year. Funny thing, there was a poster about a year ago who wanted to know what to bid on one of the cars. My recollection is that everyone warned him about the abuse the car has taken, but said that if he could get it for the low $60s, it would be a good deal. Well since the cars are still on the lot, I guess the Dealer doesn't agree with our assessment.

Unfortunately I'm at least 90 minutes away. If I were closer I'd visit the place regularly since they always have so many Porsches on their lot. I know they have a great reputation for good prices for Porsche parts, but I've heard complaints about their used car department.

The majority of PDE cars are 997, only a couple of 997S cars. I believe all the 997S cars will be phased out of the PDE program shortly for various reasons.

Jeff - I saw them on the lot about a year ago and my recollection is that they are well optioned but not Ss. Here's the listing:http://len-stoler.porschedealer.com/...ars/search.php
