Some good discussion on Handling here in a recent thread

Edit: Also recommend you find a PCA autocross in your area to push your car a little in a controlled environment (if you don't get PDE for X-mas), and that you buy the book Going Faster

Have fun. Learning to drive the 911, which you car still is despite those who think it's been electronically tamed, well is an exciting undertaking.

They would probably call a car like that a 996 GT2?

When I took my first advanced driving course at a racing school, I chuckled when they said the #1 tip was to look where you want to go. I didn't realize what they really meant until started playing Forza Motorsports for the Xbox (a driving sim game) where I noticed that if I looked at the apex of a turn I'd get through it much faster (without crashing ) than if I didn't.

After realizing this I started applying it to real life and I finally understood what they were trying to teach me. Physics not withstanding, if you aren't looking at the point where you want to go then you aren't very likely to go there. Instead, we frequently look at where we DON'T want to go (like that telephone pole, guard rail, etc...) and in real life we tend to over brake to avoid it. In video games where there is no risk of death, we simple crash into it. By applying the "look where you want to go" philosophy, you'll find that you can go a little faster through the twisties in real life and perform better in driving based video games.

Forza is a great game (when used with a steering wheel like the Fanatec Speedsteer 3) for seeing what rear engine car handles like at extremes versus front engine cars. They have a 996 GT3 and its predictable oversteer is a true joy to toss around a track like Laguna Seca.

Porsche introduced in the U.S. a 2wd Turbo in 2002 called the GT2.
