Days have gone by and I'm still mulling over ronmart's garbage truck reference. It has stuck in my craw and I'm driving an 06 997 so it wasn't that it's personal. I guess when Porsche improves on or merely makes changes to the 997 in a newer 997 or the 998 someone can post that ronmart's P-car year and model drives like a 1950s oil tanker?
It's not too cool to make yourself feel good by making others feel bad.
Catch my drift?

I don't think it was his intention to make anyone feel bad... C4s understeer, he made a comparison to a dump truck to illustrate a point, but I'm sure it was tongue-in-cheek. I think my 993 handles like a wet sponge compared to some old 911s I've driven.... whoops, I've just offended myself!

Possibly. An automotive journalist once remarked that an automatic transmission is ideally suited to turbos. Why? I don't recall.

Now where is that swamp land located?

Indeed, it wasn't meant to be personal or put down anyone's 996 C4. Hell, I was within a few weeks of a taking delivery of a 996 C4s myself when I decided to hold out for the 997's.

If it makes you feel better, I also drive a Lexus LX 470 which is full-time 4WD and it drives significantly worse than any AWD Porsche ever made.

My intent was only to point out that the difference between the 996 and 997 C4s slow speed steering is significant in my opinion.

If Porsche makes the same level of improvement over the 997 to the 998 that they did from the 996 to 997, then I hope you'll be the first person to tell me that.

I didn't know much about this remark......but, certainly does'nt make much sense, I would have picked the latest F1 car as my favorite track car, the TT will be far down in my list. But, if this is a swipe at tips. You are on the fashionable side of things albeit misinformed.

Well, why are you so certain that it was a marketing ploy regarding the c2 vs c4s. Even if you believe that awd makes it slower, it's only because of the added weight. But, the c4s is more than just the awd. Also, you may be aware that it's not just his statement, the c4s had the better time at the nurburgring than the c2.

You know what... may be, ....just, maybe it's all a scheme to get you....did you hear about the commies spying on all pre-996'ers via the air cooled motor's, and that's the real reason in porsche switching to water pumpers.

I never took you initial remark seriously, how could I....it's like someone seeing me in person and then calling me anything other than handsome...you know the person is either blind or has a grudge against me. Now if you believe this last statement of yours that there is any doubt that the 998 be an improvement (may be even revolutionary than a mear evolution) leads me to believe that you have fallen into the trap of 'mine is better than others',...which alas is easy to do and many do...I am sure your dad can beat up all our dads too...keep living in the wonderful bubble world of yours.

Sorry ronmart if I mis-read your "garbage truck" comment.

That's skill.

I had a friend lap mighty Porsches and Ferrari's at Laguna Seca while he was in a lowly stock Miata. At the end of the day the differences in steering, the 3 mph here and there and the 0.x seconds 0-60 don't make a bit of difference if you aren't better than the other drivers on the track.

Which are you referring to the 996 C4S to a 996 C2 or the 997 C4S vs 997 C2?

Where are the nurburgring times posted? and what where they?

I've never seen 'ring times that show c4 faster than c2, (unless different driver, track conditions, etc)

No, there's not much doubt it will be an improvement. I imagine the worse case is that it will merely be a body style change and a more peppy engine with little improvements elsewhere. Best case (and I hope it would be), it will be signifcantly more.
