Vehicle for non-Porsche Days
Mates - I'd like your thoughts about a vehicle to get for inclement weather. My 997S is coming in Jan. and I've got an older Porsche that will remain garaged during the winter. I'm looking on spending no more than $20K for a daily winter driver to handle the snow here in the Northeast.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Lifestyle and commute come into play. I traded in my A6 2.7 for a new Ford F150 Fx4 supercab. I live in Ct and spend a fair amount of time up in Vt. Audi Quattros and of course a 4wd truck are terrific in the snow. A german shepard, dirt bike, street bike and a quad for my son made the truck a neccesity. Can't tell you how many times my truck has come in handy. They've made some nice improvements with the interiors. Should be getting my new 997 this Friday or Saturday.

About 5 or 6 weeks ago, I posted this exact same thread:

I was looking for a way to spend no more than about $500 a month yet still be happy with the ride for my non-997S days.
Well, here is what ultimately happened: It was not possible for me to find a ride that I could get excited about for my 997S days at $500 / mo. I ended up buying a 2006 Infiniti QX56 for $53,000 and financing it for 60 months (I may pay it off next year but I was not dropping a ton of cash into the SUV the same year I bought the 997S). This equates to about $1000 a month. I am taking the accelerated depreciation in year 1 (the SUV is more than 6500 pounds and qualifies) which means in year one I get, in real dollars, $12,000 back on my Fed taxes. Thus, in effect, the car is free in year one. In year two, I get about $6000 back which means in year two the car, in effect, is $500 a month. Year three I get about $2000 back but by then I expect the car will be fully paid anyway.
So, this worked out quite well. I love this SUV by the way for my non-997S days. While it is true you could park 2 997S' inside the thing (it is HUGE), it is a welcome change from the cramped quarters of the p-car.
If you own a business, consider this option.
good luck.

Thanks guys. I just bought a VW Touareg V8 about two months ago through my biz, so I'm done w/ deductions in the car department. (Wifey will be using that in bad weather.) I appreciate all the suggestions.
