Freeloaders? Niiiice. I think I help people here more than I receive help from people here. Why don't you put all non-members on your ignore lists because who wants to associate with "freeloaders" anyway; no matter how helpful they may be?

Maybe the "freeloaders" that give advice to the "members" should be compensated for it?

I think this thread should be deleted.

Well said. Two sides sitting at a table having a discussion, then a terrorist walks in and blows the whole thing up!

I have found this discussion interesting, but it makes me wonder how Rennteam operates without "memberships"? Furthermore, why are there less petty arguments and flaming there as opposed to here? Does it have something to do with $$$ and those who have paid vs. the "others"...?

$.02

Good point. I remember back in college some psychological study which divided a large group of students into two groups. One group was given extra priviledges and other empowerments, the other, had less status and was mercilessly tormented by them.

Forget deleted. Were it me, I'd sticky a link to this thread in all the forums so people can see some (mostly) civil, intelligent discussion on the issue. Obviously it is something on the minds of many in the forum, so why hide it? On any issue, you will find four groups, one civil one on each side of the issue, and a few fringe idiots giving each side a bad reputation. Ignore the 5 or 6 crap posts in this thread, and you have a very productive dialogue, IMO.

Great job with the "you're rubber, I'm glue" comeback Chris. NOT! If is bothers you, come back with an intelligent rebuttal, not something as childish as calling Fred an "a**hole".

I'm not sticking up for Fred, as I am sure he is capable of doing that, I just find it funny that you have 5 posts in 13 months and you come up with that comment. Please go back to trolling. That type of input is not welcome here.

I already had an intelligent rebuttal, they were the posts previous to his that he could have debated, point by point, in a reasonable way. Instead of doing that, he chose to paint a large group with one characteristic and call them a name. OCBen and others have an opinion contrary to my own, and we discussed it in a rational manner like adults. If someone wants to have an intelligent discussion, like the originators of this thread, I am happy to oblige. If they are going to make an ubsubstantiated, undefended generalization, they should not be surprised by the reaction they get. No different than if someone came on and posted "Porsches are teh suck, Honduh rulez!!!!!1111!!!11" Would you attempt to argue his thesis as if he was an intelligent adult, or would you call him a douche bag and carry on your regularly scheduled program?

$18 may buy one a membership, but it doesn't necessarily buy class.

I don't think pointing to someone's message counter makes him/her more or less qualified to give input, no matter what the subject. That's a childish argument. If you would like to continue along those lines, you are effectively cutting out any new posts by what you call a "troll" (what, people without 100+ posts?) So, new posters will be under threat to provide any info, or ask questions. You, too, had only 5 posts at one time. New members would become an endangered species...

Perhaps Chris' use of the "A" word was out-of-line, but the prevous post by Fred was unwarranted. I have been considering a "Membership", but I don't need email/webspace. What I would like is a faster-updated website. Perhaps John D could let us know how (and how much) it takes to get there.

MMD, I appreciate your input as I have seen you and others here give great advice and information here and more so on Rennteam (MMD's post count 1480+, for the record) Unfortunately, Rennteam doesn't have a 993 section.

GROUP HUG.

chef....the difference between me and the user (Chris) is that I DID NOT throw expletives in my 5th post on this forum. Rather, I earned respect around here by taking in as much as possible and then giving back to others that ask for help/advice/etc., and believe it or not, I wasn't beratted on a daily basis for the first few months I wasn't a paid member.

As for it being a childish argument......have no clue what you mean by that. Just a horrible analogy that you tried to make. Make an intelligent remark not a classless one. Calling somebody an a**hole regardless if they went off base or not is just illustrating the childishness of the person posting that expletive.

I do agree with you that we do need a GROUP HUG, but it ain't gonna happen when we still have this class system. Those of you that are not paid members take WAY TOO MUCH offense to a thread like this when in fact it all started out with the best of intentions.

Like I said......JON OR JENN IF YOU ARE LISTENING......take away the damn titles (Rennlist Member/Registered User/Addict/Specialist/etc.) and just have flippin screen names only! That will solve this problem instantly. Donate if you want or don't just don't think you have to argue your side becasude you are NOT going to convince anybody to think your way and strong arming it ain't gonna cut it.

Can we all please stop beating this dead horse and get back to what we love??? PORSCHE!

Gotta say, if I was a moderator this thread would be locked. It does no good for the forum.

The "childish argument" was referring to your argument that only having a certain number of posts give more credence to one's opinions versus another. Perhaps I should have said "weak argument", or "misguided argument". Mea Culpa. How are my remarks "classless"? I haven't been throwing around personal attacks or expletives, so please, don't tell me about class. This is precisely the general tone of discussion that I normally avoid, but I had some time to burn.

Now to your final point:
"Can we all please stop beating this dead horse and get back to what we love??? PORSCHE!!!"
AGREED!!! My last post on this subject. LOCK IT UP.

Proud to be a Freeloader
