Can someone explain to me the difference in the phone options.

1) Options you buy in a SIM (I got that one)
2) They do some kind of phone prep and then buy a craddle for you handset model? Anyone know any more about this, do they have cradles available and would this allow you to use the handsfree setup in the car? (anyone know what they call this options).
