Bought my 05 C2S with 1800 miles. I researched the dealership where the previous owner bought it. He had it in for a bluetooth and radar detector install. No flaws. I got the car back to Scottsdale and the rear window had a slight creak at times. EZ fix. Problem is common in a hot climate. Other than that it's perfect. This is my 3rd Porsche. 88 944; 99 996; 05 C2S. All were very very reliable. I would encourage anyone to buy this brand!
Parking light gremlins (posted earlier) and intermittently schizophrenic cd player. Both in the buzzing insect category rather than a complete killjoy.

had 400 miles on mine! Will be bringing the car in to the dealer tomorrow. It has wind noise on the driver side window. Also, there is a crackling, rattling noise in the engine with cold starts in the morning lasting about 5 seconds. Is that normal?
I have 997S, 3500 miles.
At 100 miles noticed "thunk" at rear - fixed by replacing PASM dampers at rear
At 2000 miles breakdown on motorway - fuel pump had failed which also burnt out a connector.
From 1500 - 3500 miles squeaking noise - dealer claims is problem with front suspension, due to be fixed next week after waiting >4 months for parts!
Also during fuel pump fix dealer replaces boot(trunk) latch and finds footwell lights not working due to LEDs inserted wrong way round
All but fuel pump and rear dampers are known faults in 1st year car parts/assembly

Perfectly normal. That is the 2ndary air injection. You should really only hear it in 1st gear for the first 50-100 feet or so.
I too have been cleaning up oil leaks. Had 4 RMS replacements on my Boxster and had the engine replaced. I was hoping that the 3.8 engine would have solved this problem. I am thinking of a light weight fly wheel which will go a long way to solve the RMS problem. But why should I pay to correct the problem for Porsche? I am pissed that the tires do not last longer! Only one year and 12,000 miles on the rears. Otherwise a great car.
I had a bad egg transmission at less than 1000 miles but the dealership replaced it immediately and I haven't had a problem yet at over 10,000 miles so saying that my car has been unreliable would be false.
06 997S -- 2000 miles in 2.5 months and no problems --
Should I really wait 20,000 miles for an oil change like the dealer recommended?!?

You'll hear this debated back and forth endlessly. Personally, I plan to change it every 10,000 miles just to be on the safe side. After spending 90,000+ on a new car, I can live with spending an extra $200 every year rather than every two years for piece of mind.
60% no problem, 30% minor, and10% major problems.....what does this mean and i wonder how other sports car do...this was the first year for the 997, perhaps the cars will be more trouble free in the future..it seems a lot of the problems were very minor, easily fixed and perhaps no more problems
I think given the history of problems with the the 996 and Boxster launches, this is astonishing. I'm excited about these results and am inclined to believe that this will be the most reliable Porsche launch ever (and hopefully the most reliable ever built). At least I like to think so now that I've ponied up my hard earned bucks for one! :-)
Yikes! Are we really complaining about getting 12K miles from rear high performance tires on a heavy rear engined beast of a car. I'm hoping for 10K but planning on 8K.
