Default Only 997S in magazines

Just curious but why don't they ever use just a 'normal' 997 in test for magazine. Agreed that the 997S is such a performance masterpiece but for some of us with more limited budgets the 997 is more affordable.

I think the last article I saw with a normal 997 was a R&T comparo between the C6 Corvette.

Agreed,...there are not that many articles dealing with the base 997. The same goes for the 4 and 4S - even the articles (such as "Return of the Carrera 4 and 4S" in Total 911) only deal with the S !!!

BTW, there is another base 997 article in EVO magazine comparing it to the Boxster S - EVO - 997 vs Boxster S Comparison

Discrimination...i say....The S is only a hair quicker than base...and usually heavier!

Because there is virtually no difference in performance between the base 996 and the base 997. The 997 is heavier with 5 more hp. Why waste magazine space on the 997 when they reported on the 996? Also, other than the happy face front end on the 997, you cannot tell it apart from the 996.

The S at least provides writers something to write given it has 20 more hp.

For the 997 Series: 30 hp difference (325 vs 355) !!!! Add 26 hp for the X51.

So here's a question then......

If 30 hp is $10,100 more (997 to 997S)
then.......
Why does 26 hp cost $16,900 more? (997S w/ X51 add-on)

So by that logic, 56 hp will cost you $27,000 OUCH!!!!

Porscheconomics do not have to be logical so long as it makes them money.

Dave...you think we could teach a class in Porscheconomics at the local university? It's a perfect business model......any price you set, there will still be takers! Amazing.

actually the $10k difference between the base and the S is more than just 30 hp. for example it includes bigger wheels and tires, xenon, pasm...

You know what I meant So my staement about Porsche pricing just gets even more comical.

So, what do think that 30hp really cost.....roughly $5500??? (subtracting from my $10K difference 2K for PASM, 1K for Xenon, 1.5K for wheel upgrade). Wow! I would have done at the very least Xenon and Wheels on my order in the spring. So, I am so sold on warrantied, RELIABLE, 30 hp for $5.5K! I can now cross the base 997 off my list.

Yeah, about that happy face. Has anyone else besides Nick mentioned that in this forum?

I was just thinking about this very thing the other day, wondering why the Porsche designers opted for a happy face on the 997 front end, kinda like the happy faced cartoon cars in the Chevron Gas advertisements. Why they didn't go for a more aggressive look is beyond me. If I knew how to photoshop I would try to invert that and see if this look would be more becoming.

I bet the 997 GT3 front end will have a more aggressive look. And I wonder how many of us will be ordering one just for the improved look.

Let's do it Dell.
You can also add in the $12K they're charging me for the AWD - although I suppose on a percentage basis it's a drop in the well on the MSRP !!!!!
