I used the same technique as 1080i to solder the modular cable to an inline fuse and ground. Then I used the 3M inline connectors to tap the hot and ground leads of the interior light. Use a test light to ensure you have correctly identified hot leads.

Brown/White = Hot Lead
Brown/Brown = Ground

This is great! Just what I (and I'm sure others) was waiting for. Do I need to order extra wiring harness connectors, or is everything included with the standard kit?
Thanks.

You can order a direct connect wire cord from the radar manufacturer or build your own.

Zumaron,
Just did your connections, Brown/white & Brown/brown......Mine works (escort 8500) as long as I have the center switch of the of the 3 switch dome light assembly OFF....If I turn the center switch on, it switches OFF the radar....Not a big deal, because regardless of switch position or radar on/off, when you arm the car after a minute or so, all power is switched off, so there is no chance of battery discharge.... Does yours do the same?

Why doesn't Porsche use a standard wire harness...it seems pretty stupid, and limits ones ability to add options after purchase....I would add the self dimming mirror (I'm waiting for it to become available thru tequipment)....I did in my BMW, and it was a simple plug into harness affair 5 minutes!!!.....The Porsche 996 self dimming mirror retrofit kit took several HOURS to install, and even required the driver's seat to be removed...Absurd!!

I intended to install my new V1 today, and lo and behold, there was a switched power wire up by the headliner. I guess the previous owner had a V1 installed so I just plugged mine in and it worked. Easiest install I've ever done. I need to put some work into installint the remote display. Great post by the way.

Default direrct to fuse box

I installed the connection directly at the fuse box. To do so I had to remove the light panel at the roof and the plastic A pillar trim-snaked the wire between roof and head liner. While the a pillar trim was off saw the antenna connections. Works fine and did not have to cut any factory wires.

Jason, the radar unit will switch OFF when you arm the alarm. I haven't tested the center light and its effects -- will do that later today.
Happy to read it's working for you!

If you could check Zumaron, that would be great....just a little bizarre that switching on the center light, switches off the radar

Confrimed. Fortunately for me, I'm concentrating on driving when I need the benefits of radar.

Thanks 1080i
just hardwired my 06 c4s cab with your excellent instructions, my only modification is that I used tap connectors to both the ground and switched wires, I did solder the fuse and ground to the jack wires.

I don't think its really necessary to perform the 'try and see' which of the leads are the +12v and ground to the unit. This was figured out by someone else in another forum of this site. Here is the key:

Make sure you connect the right pin wire to the right polarity (on the end you are installing), and you are 'good to go'.

hey guys,

i noticed you are all installing your V1 pretty high up. on a 996 (not sure about 997) there is a light tint line. does it block the V1 signal at all?

on my 7er the metalic tint on the front window only allows a certain place where V1 can be installed.

Are there spare +12v switched taps at the fuse box, or did you have to jump it off an existing fuse?
