Default No LSD ???

I am planning to buy a new 997S in the next year or so, I have been a Porsche fan for nearly all my life and put 100,000 miles on a 944 that is now, slowly, turning into a track car.

Several things about the 997 bother me though and at this point I am dwelling on the apparent lack of LSD on this car. How can it be that the 997 does not have a limited slip differential, this is true right?

Is there a technical justification for not having an LSD, or is this just another example of Porsche dropping the ball (like no real dry sump system). ~100K is a lot to pay for a car and it seems like LSD should be part of the package or at least an option.

Even my E36 M3 has LSD and I bought it new for about half the price of a 997S.

Hopefully I am wrong and the 997 really does have LSD.

I think the 997 with the sports steel suspension (not PASM) has a limited slip differential, but it has been reported as quite stiff riding (as expected).

The -20MM sports suspension has the LSD. Not available in the U.S.A. but is available r.o.w.

I don't know the "why's" of your limited slip question but the results of the 997 on the track via time trails speak volumes...
