True story here. About 24 years ago I was on the 210 fwy near Irwindale. I had a 1966 El Camino and a 18 wheeler ran over a 4" X 4" by 4' block used to set loads on flatbed trucks. The block was sent into the air like a missile and my rate of speed was probably about 70 mph the block came through my windshield and was lodged into the seat of my car about 1 foot away from me. I was lucky and uninjured.

Yeah, we had a spate of around 15 or more freeway shootings, all happening in a relatively short period of time, that terrorized us motorists here in So. Cal. There were like 3 shootings in three days. I don't know what the latest tally is but I wouldn't be surprised if it's over 20 or more. The shootings seem to have tapered off since Katrina.

Find another body shop. I've had damage to a Polar Silver bumper cover and an Arena Red bumper cover. If the painter is good and patient enough to try mixing the color correctly, you will not be able to tell the difference. It may come down to a painter (one who sprays paint) vs. a body repair artiste that will carefully match the color. Trust me it can be done. It just takes a little trial and error on a sample piece of sheet metal for the artiste to correctly match the paint.
Good luck,

Thanks for the tip. I'll be stopping by a highly reputable shop tonight and I'll ask to speak with the painter to get his opinion on how he goes about ensuring the right match. This will accomplish two things. One, I'll get an idea of the quality of the work they do by observing the conditions there and by talking to him to try to gauge his experience. And two, he'll be able to personalize the customer with a face and see my concerns about getting it as close to perfect as possible. Oh, don't worry, I'll try as hard as I can not to be a PIA in the process - that would be the worse thing to do!
