A cashiers check is a bearer instrument. It is only written when the funds are available to be deducted. Once the bank issues the check the funds are deducted from your account. It does not have to be held to clear, it is liquid. That's provided that it's not fraudulent of course.

As stated, the dealer sounds like he is being overly cautious. Send him the check and let him bank it if you are worried.

Bank wire transfer is same day transfer of funds. Do not let them talk you into three days prior. I live in Illinois, purchased a new 911 coupe from a Ky. dealership. Wrote a personal check for full amount-no questions asked and it was a 1st time purchase from this dealership! Took five days for it to clear. Your dealer is jerking you around although they have probably been burned in the past, once too often.
