Default Clear Bra?'s

Big thread on rennteam about it and I have read it all. Was talking with an installer today at the germanautofest in Ventura and he was really making me think that you need to use 3M product. Do the people here that have it know what kind of film was used. I know some people here have used Sam at Premier with good results but I do not think he uses 3M. Also, anyone had it on a car for more than a couple of years wondering about yellowing and peeling.

Any input will be appreciated.

TIA.

I believe 3M is the manufacturer. It doesn't really yellow. Make sure it is wrapped around edges. The most exposed areas for it to peel off is at the edge. I would never use it on a p-car, but have it on my 5 other cars.

I am not sold on it at this point. I really haven't seen a good job yet. Just out of curiosity why on your other cars and why not on the P. Is it a looks problem?

I believe yellowing is only going to occur if the car sees alot of sun, or not garaged. It's probably gonna take much more than a couple of years. If this were also the case, you probably wouldn't notice it much on anything but white anyway. Peeling is definitely an install issue. Hope that helps.

I just had the 3M film installed today. I asked the yellowing question and the film is guarnteed for 5 years against many things including yellowing. I got the full coverage option and it really looks great. You have to be pretty close to see the film and there is not a bubble or streak anywhere. Alan Seligman did my install, he was recommended from others on Rennlist and I have to say he did a fantastic job. I"d definately recommend him to anyone looking to have this done. He took 5 hours to do the install just to make sure it was perfect. He was a real nice guy and definately took a lot of pride in his work. I'll take some pictures in a few days after it has time to cure completely.

This is what I've heard. There is a standard 3M film that can potentially yellow over time. It's also one of the least expensive. The next grade up is the film by Venture which resists yellowing and is slightly more expensive. The top of the line film, from what I understand, is a new one by 3M called 3M Aerospace Film. This is the most expensive and provides the best protection against stone chips. And is guaranteed not to yellow or fade for a period of 5 yrs or it will be replaced free of charge under the manufacturer's warranty.

The 3M Aerospace film is what I have on mine. And it was expertly installed in a controlled, dust free environment by Envisage Design Labs of Torrance, CA. I opted for the custom installation which goes beyond the standard kit and covers 100% from mid hood forward, as well as the mirrors. The installation was perfect and the film is really invisible until you happen to catch the reflection off the seam line or get really up close to see it. You won't be able to tell from a photo how it really looks. You need to see it up close in person to appreciate it. Total Cost? Just south of one grand. But worth every penny.

OC Ben pretty much answered it. The only parts I did not get covered is a strip along the front roof line and a strip on the front window pillars. Otherwise the car is covered pretty well. I have to say it looks great and if it preforms half as well as I've been told it will be worth every penny. I'll be moving to Colorado at the end of the month and the stone chips are what I'm most worried about and this product is supposed to protect against that. I paid about $750, maybe it's cheaper to install in FL then Cali??

Opposing opinion...I don't care what product you use or how well it is installed, I can see it. There will be a line and the "orange peel" will be noticable. I do not want this on a $130K car!. My other cars (mostly Lexus SUVs, audis) are everyday drivers. In CO they use gravel (or large stones) when it snows (no salt) so it is like a sand blasting environment (with the winds). So for everyday drivers the bra is a good idea. I only drive the p-car when its nice out.

Where can I get the regular bra for 997? Is it out yet? I'm not into this saran wrap stuff.

I haven't heard of that being done but I can see why. My 20 yr old Z car is a testament to the reason why you would. I've also heard of a film for the windshield to keep that from picking up stone chips and potentially causing cracks. I'm sure the folks up in Colorado have heard of it and use it to protect against flying gravel in the wintertime. It's a pretty part of the country but the winters can be brutal, especially on a fine sports car. Good luck there.
