997S - would you buy a launch vehicle?
The very first 997S's shipped in Sept 04 (the so called launch vehicles). Are they considered as dependable as later 997S's?

My launch car had a few issues which the dealer quickly rectified every step of the way.
Is this still a new car that hasn't been sold or a used vehicle? Personal, I think the launch vehicles are so great due to all of the options that they came with (full leather etc.), but really, it's a matter of personal choice.
If the car is in good condition, hasn't been abused (if it's used), and you can get it for a really good deal, then I would go for it. Otherwise, another vehicle is out there for you.
My car now has 17,500+ miles on it and it's my daily driver. Since working out a few early issues (coolant leak, airbag control unit etc.), I've had no problems whatsoever.

Thanks for the quick reply. The car is black/black, loaded, pccb's, nav, etc. One owner. He paid sticker 99k. Plus he added 4k in options like huper optik tint, k40 and bluetooth phone. I'm buying it for 89k. 1800 miles.

Putt-Putt,
As long as the car is in good condition and has been serviced, then I would go for it. It truly is optioned perfectly.
Also, you might want to have the closer dealer check to make sure that there are not any outstanding service calls. Besides that you should be good to go.

I too have a 997S "launch car" - bought it on launch day (8/28/04). 11,000+ miles, no problems even worth mentioning (only 1 or 2 minor, minor issues fixed quick). If its what you want and the deal is right, no reason not to go for it.
BTW, if you do get it, I'd like to see pictures with the Huper Optik tint.

I'm supposed to be picking mine up this afternoon. It has 4k miles, and I'll be in for what the dealer was going to give the owner on trade -- $78k. The owner is a buddy of mine, which is why he's doing me this favor. It was a deal that seemed too good to pass up. This will be my first Porsche, as I've traditionally been a Corvette guy (ZR-1, Z06, LT-1).
Hope these Gen II PCCB's hold up like they should!

Putt putt -- DO IT! I can virtually guarantee you won't have any regrets!
I know mine has probably been driven hard a few times by my buddy -- the previous owner -- as he's a professional race car driver. And of course, there are schools of thought regarding "soft" versus "hard" break-ins. Maybe the launch cars have been through "harder than average" break-ins. But the way I look at it, the car's got 3 years of warranty left. If, at the end of 3 years, I'm not convinced it's going to remain reliable, I'll just let her go and get another. But in the mean time, you'd be getting a very nicely equipped car with an unbeatable color combo, and you'll have lots of fun. Those were the thoughts that got me over the fence, and after my first drive as an owner, I'm really glad I did it!

Sounds like a sweet deal, go for it, you've earned it!
My C4S has been the best, most dependable, rugged car I've ever had the pleasure to own. Don't see how I could ever top it.

Bought it !!!
Done Deal. $89k (and no sales tax thank you very much). My new 997S has been paid for.
Flew to Chicago and did a final inspection/purchase. Then I drove it to DAS Autoshippers. $1788 for their expedited service. Should have it in my garage and registered in AZ in eight or nine days.
Seller is a phenomenal guy who kept the car clean, waxed and perfect. This is the first used car I've ever purchased, but it's as close to showroom condition as you can get. I'll post better pics once I get it.
