Default Locking sound option

Just picked up a red 997 S. I am used to a little noise (beep or horn) when locking or unlocking my other non-P cars. The 997 only flashes the lights. Is there an option to change this? I have the chrono package if that makes a difference.

How will I ever find my car in the parking lot without a sound?

In my old 996 [likewise in my 993] there is only a blink. I don't think there is a sound. Remember where you parked and you should be good...I'm guessing you are educated to be able to afford a new 997, and I'm also guessing that you used to drive cars with no central locking or alarm. Did you lose all of those cars?

I think he's talking more about the confirmation "beep" rather than the "where's my car?" beep.

Other than my '86 911 race car, I have to say I did lose them... They must all be at the Mall of America parking lot somewhere.

The confirmation sound is in the form of the clicking sound that the locks make when you lock it. Of course, you need to be close by to hear it. I was used to my Boxster's remote locking and so I've made a habit of pressing the lock button as soon as I close the door so I can hear "confirmation."

i wish there were separate lock and unlock buttons on the remote. "did i lock the car already?" "does one flash mean locked or unlocked?" itd be much easier if you could just press "lock" one extra time to make sure.

Yes, I agree. A "chirp" sound would help some of us more clueless owners. Anyone ever heard of this being done aftermarket?

I really dislike the "chirp" on locking that is used so widely. I have become used to looking for the two light flashes upon locking. Takes a little retraining.

I agree that some sort of sound verification would be nice. And they can do it as the Cayenne S gives a little half-volume honk on the horn.

That's because people who buy SUV's need all the help they can get.

It hard to "know" when I lock my car because there is a delay after you push on single lock button on the key and when it flashes. Sometimes I push it twice by accident and then it locks/unlocks. And in bright daylight, its hard to see the flashes.

On the 993 I can at least hear the locking mechanism quite clearly and it seems to respond quicker as well. Porsche needs to get with the program and get that second button for the lock system.
