Default Windshield Condensation in A/C Mode

It was hot and humid coming back from Eastern L.I. Sunday night and when I ran the A/C a large area of condendation formed in the lower center of the driver's side windshield, right in the line of vision, and to a lesser extent on the passenger side. This was a problem with the 996 and Cayanne and has been a big topic of discussion on the 996 board. Supposedly, VW had a firmware fix for the Toureg, which also had the problem. The solution (apart from just continually doing swipes with the wipers) appears to be to operate the A/C manually through just the floor and cabin vents and not the window vents, but I'm a little surprised that Porsche didn't solve this issue with the 997. Was wondering if any other 997 owners have experienced this.

Yes, I have experienced the exact same issue, so I just switched from auto to lower and front vents and the problem went away. Nice to know, however, that its not just my ride that has the issue!

If conditions are right, ALL cars do the same thing especially if air is being blown out of the defrroster vents. Your windows in you home will do the same thing if you have a register direcly below them. Simply physics. Moisture is attracted to cold surfaces.

I have the same thing when I leave the a/c on auto. So now I just push the button so the air flows through front vents only, as well. Why is that? None of my other cars with auto a/c has the problem.

It's not a problem if you live in arid climates.

OCBEN -- absolutely true -- This doesn't happen unless there is significant humidity or a mix of humidity and cold glass. I've never seen condensation on anything where I live (Arizona).

Same issue. Even my 02 Boxster S that I had before the 997 had the same issue. Not a big deal, however, because I just redirect the air away from the vents closest to the windshield.

Somewhere a Porsche engineer is smiling. Remember when the AC on 911s was horrible? I do. Now the AC is too darned strong! Mwahahahahahaha, it's the AC engineer's revenge.
