Question Engine Question?

I have 997S with 400 Miles on it now and have notice at idle I can feel engine twitch (ever slightly) every 3 to 5 seconds. Is this part of the Porsche engine character?

What are you doing idling the car? Drive it and the "twitch" will disappear. Drive it hard and vary the engine speed.

Well I try to run as many red lights as possible but sometime I do have to stop at the light.
Thank you for your answer.

I know of no car that has an absolutly smooth idle. The more you listen, the more variance you will hear. The normal variance in idle is +/- 40 rpm. Sometimes, the idle will be better than other times. I don't know exctly what a "twitch" is, but if it's just a slight movement in idle, I wouldn't worry about it. If you're still following the Porsche "hint" for breakin, try opening it up a few times and see if it corrects itself. There is nothing worse for an engine than to dog it all the time.

Could it be the a/c compressor kicking in then?

Definitely! That shake is definitely part of the purity of the 911.

Someone, a while back, asked if the passenger seat is supposed to shake at idle. I would think that the engine is not running according to specs unless the whole car shakes at idle.

The engine shake is one of the fun things about the car when your at a red light. You just sit the and get a little massage. It feels good and reminds you of what you have in the back of your car!!

If I understood my manual correctly, the A/C compressor is on all the time, unless you hit the eco button to turn it off.

The compressor is active all the time, but only actually ON when needed to maintain set temperature. Hitting ECO button keeps A/C compressor OFF.
