Clear markers as in VS1 Clarity Grade or better diamonds?

Adam (and anybody else who may be interested in buying clear rocks), here's a useful link: http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_education.asp?track=60

I used that useful info there to buy my wife-to-be a modest 2.1 carat engagement ring. I think you can get a PhD in Gemology, what with so much to learn and know.

My wife may be a bit more "up front" than some (no fake-like smirks here!) - when I blurted out on the phone I wanted to get the 997S (5 months after getting the 996 Targa), she did not miss a beat in saying "I want a new car too!" (10 months after she got a new 04 Cayenne S). So what could I say, of course she got an 05 Cayenne S (with lots more options). More recently, she's lobbying to replace her engagement ring, I'm afraid to ask but she's probably thinking 10 "carrots" (after I got her a really nice anniversary ring for her birthday, she's stepped up the lobbying).

Anyway, adam, I think your idea is brilliant - with one caveat - hopefully she's the kinda girl that will like what you give her, and not sit there comparing the cost to your car and coverting a positive into a negative of why didn't you get me more.

Funny how several of us have thought the same idea. I was just thinking about that about 2 weeks ago when I was with my wife at Tiffany's. My wife was admiring a few different diamond & pearl necklaces (I say "ouch" to the prices). I've also been verbally paving the way for getting a 997, so I thought having something in the glovebox would be a nice surprise. Brilliant (or is it desparate?) minds think alike!

Looks like I got it backwards. Did the addition of unusual size before the Carrera. Now her gaze has fallen upon the XJ8L. Good thing the kids still produce the odd messy spill. Maybe forced induction for the Odyssey in the meantime?

Well, today is my birthday and what did my wife give me as a gift (aside from new Maui Jim sunglasses)? She gave me a check for $500.00 toward the car which arrives next week so I could buy an accessory (I can get the gas cap now!!!!).

So that seals it. The fact she is giving me cash toward my dream car that she has no interest in is basically the most selfless act of giving I have seen from her in at least 1 week!! She is getting the diamond package. I am going to video tape her reaction by hiding the video camera in the garage and Ill post a .mpg here of her reaction.

Shoudl I get her the studs or the studs that hang down by that little chain?

Studs are more casual, hangers are more formal.

I say studs. Cause afterall, that's what you'll be once it's all done. :-D

1080i:
Studs can be worn everyday with anything, anyday, for any occasion --- hanging diamonds are generally reserved for special occasions with appropriate attire. If you guys do the black tie thing quite a bit or are formal entertainers the hanging ones will be nice. Otherwise stick to studs. She'll see them more often and be reminded each time she does of your endless devotion to her happiness .......(ok , excuse me while I go puke...).

After all the debate, there will be NO diamond package.

I just got back from the jewler and I saw the pair of studs I liked - - - $58,000!!!! - - after discount $35,000!!!!! %$#*& That. I thought a nice pair of studs would cost $10,000 tops!! When he showed me studs in my price range, they looked like a pair you would find in a Cracker Jack box as a prize, with white blotches throughout the stones.

Well, I had good intentions, but no way on this green earth can I afford stones like that after buying this car.
