Default don't jam the trunk

I loaded (stuffed) the trunk this morning with soft sided suit cases and it caused the front latch opening mechanism to not work. I had to rush to the local dealer (Manhattan) and it took them 20 minutes to open it. The car has a mechanical release, but they had to take off the tire and open the wheel well to get to it. When all was emptied the release worked fine. So, don't jam your trunks.

Another reason not to overload the trunk is that if there are any sharp objects on top (like your wife's knitting needles, I speak from experience) they can put a dent in the lid from the inside sticking out. That's one reason to get a trunk lid liner that a number of the after-market companies sell.

EEK! yeah, you're all right. I just hate chasing people around, pushing the out of the way of my current Boxster, for closing BOTH trunks properly.

Ditto. I've been waiting for Das Schild to come out with a 997 version but haven't seen it yet.

There was a recall just issued for the trunk latch on the 997. Our car is in for another issue right now (major...more on this later) and the SA pulled the recall off the computer for the first time. I'm not sure of the details.

There was also a recall just issued for Tiptronic cars...something to do with the ignition cylinder, if I remember correctly.

Oops - sorry, I saw 997 in the list of models and assumed that meant it was available. I see now that it isn't. Hopefully they will have one soon - especially since the aluminum will need some additional protection.

I emailed Das Schild re 997 trunk protector, and this was their reply:

Thank you for your interest in our custom liners. We are expecting inventory for the 997 in late Sept.

We are happy to notify you via email as soon as parts become available.

Congratulations on the 997, we look forward to protecting your lid!

My trunk switch failed again. This time I went to my dealer, he opened it through the wheel well and explained that they are having problems with the solenoid. They have not recalled the part, but he has seen a few bad ones. They ordered the part.
