I think my experience (997S, 10 months, 9k+ miles) is the "norm" - only one problem, the rear hatch latch failed. Some cars did have the problem with the defective front hood latch and electrical gremlins because of it, but I'm sure that's behind us. I see no reason to wait at all. I've had 964, 993, Boxster S, 996, and now 997S - the 997S is the best ever.

I heard that the RMS problem is still apparent. Wonder if they'll fix that during the 997's lifespan?

I've had my car now since May and it drives like a charm. I have an occasional vibration in the converible top that my dealership is scheduled to look at on July 20th, but doesn't occur all the time. Not one oil leak, and the engine seems stronger each time I drive it. I think you will find your car to be just fine as PCNA hopefully has had time to address these initial flaws.

Dec. 2004 built. Purchased Feb. 2005. Bought off the showroom floor exactly the car I would have ordered. 5000 miles. Flawless. Perfect in every respect. Best car I've ever owned.

the worse i've heard was skip's story re: his 997s in colorado (do a search)... electric gremlin they could not shake. know his was an early build. but i do recall pcna making good on it.

(edit) ... i'll add, i would not pause a bit to pick one up.

If you read between the lines, it's pretty clear that the dealer / PCNA bought Skip's car back. It sounds like his problem was probably just the front hood latch defect that nobody could figure out at the time, but maybe he just got a rare lemon.

6K here and nothing more than a few rattles that I've had to tune out. Pretty much a launch car. This car can run with the best of them.

A few minor problems cleared up early by the dealer. I'd buy another in a second.

A few problems at the start but the dealer took care of them ASAP. Since then the car has been a pure joy to own and drive. Probably the most fun I've every had behind the wheel of a car. I would not hesitate to buy another.

So what are these "few minor problems" that a "few" of you have mentioned?

I'm interested in picking up a 997S, but I'm coming from a very bad experience where the car has needed *two* engine replacements and a tranny replacement, all within 50k miles. I'd rather not have ANYTHING go wrong with a $90k car.
