I've got the track bug, and to do it right I need to have a dedicated track car and a dedicated street car. If I sell my 997 I can do both the right way. Sticker was around $83K, she is guards red/black, sport seats, Bose, colored caps, mats.. pretty basic stuff. Runs flawlessly, a pleasure to drive..

Just tossing the idea around, haven't decided yet.

Already, eh? Can't you use the M3/Liberty for street, 997 weekends, and 964 as a track beast?

964 would need about 10K in modifications and to be ripped apart. Its too nice for that. MUCH easier to buy a fully prepped car and trailer for what the 964 is worth as is and sell the 964. It just makes sense to get a nice 993 (always wanted one, my favorite body design) and use it for a cruiser, the Jeep for winters, dump runs, and to haul the track car and stuff. 964 is going either way, no use for it at this point. BMW is wifey's ride..

No doubt about that 930, but the track is going to take a toll on her, and its not ME thats going to cause her to get wrecked... if you know what I mean. DE insurance is close to $2000 per year with a $20K deductable, that is a joke. And a repaired car is all done in my eyes.. Just makes more sense to have 2 cars specific to purpose. Who knows if it will ever happen, but i'm open to the idea if the right deal comes along. until then you are 100% correct, this car is VERY capable on the track, I know of a couple instructors that know it now too!

Even if I go that route I will be back in the 997 fold as soon as they get their DSC transmission ironed out...

Gary, hang on to the car. The Guards Red in a classic. Besides you'll take a hit if you sell. If you do find a buyer what car are you interested in buying and what color?

Jay... did you read the whole thread? I want to convert it into 2 cars.. a 993 and a dedicated track car. While it does fantastically at the track it will take too much of a toll on her. I have always loved the 993 body style, so i'm looking to get a low-milage one (possibly a turbo) and then buy a prepared track car/trailer for DE's and other events..

Sorry I misunderstood you. I see your point of view. You must have really loved Watkins Glenn. I have to admit I have always admired the rear lines of the 993, and if you can get a turbo at a nice price that would be great. Good luck on your search.

DE INSURANCE........not a problem. There are several companies which do not exclude DE. Chubb, Progressive, Gieco, Nationwide, State Farm and Safeco. Chubb knows what we are doing in DE and the rest do not, as far as I know. Chubb and Nationwide have paid track claims. Chubb is a bit more expensive, but offers better coverage. Call Billie Bowman or Scott Grambling 727 522-777 for a quote. I will publish an article on this subject soon.

There might be a way to keep your 997, how about a spec Miata? Its way way cheaper than going the Porsche racing route.
