997/S vs. Vette. If the Vette were a Mercedes...
would there be so much rivalry?
For me it is a long-time dislike for GM cars, thinking they are fair-to-mediocre in every way. Then, Corvette comes around and tries to disguise the traditional mediocrity of GM and starts comparing itself to Porsche 997. There's something unappealing in that. Plus the styling seemd outdated and "superhero."
What do you think causes these sharp difference of opinions between sides?
Do you get annoyed when a Corvette pulls up to your new 997/S?
If the Corvette were German-made would it be the same? Is it because it always has more HP?

I have no problems with Corvettes. They are fine cars for what they are. I'm willing to bet that if an owner of a Corvette and I met over a beer, we'd have a great conversation.

But I'm under this impression that generally speaking the Corvette owners "hate" Porsches and Porsche owners "hate" Corvettes. (notice the owners do NOT hate eachother).
Is this true? How prevalent is this sentiment?

I agree with Texas911 statement. And I know for a fact that many Corvette owners (and future owners) wish they had the bucks to get into a 911. IMO the apparent negative attitudes of Corvette owners vs. P-car owners, and viceversa, should not be generalized. Yes I do get the typical idiot in a Corvette on the freeway, wanting to show off his extra hp's and race. I let them go, I have nothing to prove to anyone, and I don't hate them.

I hate to be so negative but who the hell cares about the Vette anyway? This is the last Vette V. 997 thread I will ever look at or reply to.
Both are great cars, in different leagues, for a different price and buyer and serve a different purpose........
Lets discuss 997 stuff here instead of vette this and m3 v.9977 that etc. etc. etc.

I get the "why didnt you buy the new ZO6 Vette" question alot. I didnt want a vette. I don't care if it had 700hp, it is not a 911. Any of us on this forum could have bought a Z06 vette and a mini cooper for what we paid for our 997's. How many Vette folks wish they were driving a 911... probably more than the other way around.

Did you ever notice that the girl with the guy driving the Vette always looks sexually deprived? But the girls in the Porsches have that glowng "just got laid" look on their face. Gee... I wonder what the Vette owner is lacking in?

The main rivalries seem to be 911 versus Corvette versus Viper. The are a few in each group that "hate" the others (just as there are in sports), which makes it seem like each group hates the other. However, after viewing the forums for each, I am surprised how many people have crossed over from one to the other, or even owned one or two from the other group at one time. Most people don't hate the other group. I think just about everyone realizes that all sports cars have their pluses and minuses, and will buy whatever suits them at the time.

A friend of mine used to be a "hardcore" vette fan and owned one in the past. He always talked about them and how, if his personal responsibilities permitted, he would buy another.
Then a few weeks ago he got to drive my 997 and loved it. Asked me to sell it to him when I'm ready to trade it!
