Yah you can make that fugly bwm body out of the silhouette of a 911 but on the other hand you can also make a great looking lady outa a hugh fat chicks silhouette.
The reality for both is not f'n very pretty.

The sad thing is that Henrik Fiskar who did the Z8, left BMW and did the gorgeous Aston Martin V8:

The AM provides a clue as to what BMW could have done with their big coupe.
BMW, on the other hand, produced this monstrosity of a car, the 645. If you study the new 6, it looks OK sometimes from the very low angles that BMW uses for most of their photography. The first time I saw one in the flesh, however, I pulled in next to one in my SUV. From that high angle (unfortunately the angle from which most Americans will be looking at the 6!) the rear end treatment looked totally awkward.
And as far as the driving experience, it's very good, for a BIG coupe. The more ones drives it though, the more the mass of the thing becomes an irritation.

Ahh, now that makes sense. I didn't realize that Henrik had done the AM. His departure is a real loss for BMW. I had always imaginined and hoped that a new 6 would have that type of design ever since I had my E24 M6. Even though the 997 and 6 are very different machines, had the new 6 looked like the AM I may have had trouble in deciding where to put my money.
With the horrendous 6 they came up with, there is no comparison.

As for the M6, I don't think I'd get a CLK55 over it, but maybe a CL500. BMW had such a good thing going for it design wise why the change in course? Is this the same company that designed the Mini Cooper, Range Rover, and Rolls Royce? All of which I think are very competent designs.
I can't find the guy's name but the same man behind the new Mini Cooper now works at Maserati where he worked on the new Quattroporte and the MC12.
The MC12 is based on the Ferrari Enzo, but it is bigger in every area. It is the fist factory-backed Maserati race car (ALMS and FIA GT) since the 1950s. Here it is at this year's 12 Hours of Sebring.

Fisker is starting his own car company, Fisker Autocoach or Coachworks, based out of Newport Beach.
I really like his designs: Z8 and AM cars.
There's an article about him in Excellence and he claims that his two favorite and inspirational (i think)car designs are the 911 Carrera and the Jaguar E-type. Couldn't agree with him more.
