M6 vs. C4S

BD, if it were me, I would sock away a little extra dinero, add it to cost of M6 and bide my time for a 997TT.
Agree. I let my BMWCCA membership lapse last week after five years--something I thought I would never do.
Just can't convince myself anymore that the new BMW styling direction will grow on me . They are still superb mechanical creations--albeit getting a bit portly, but nothing BMW has cranked out after Z8 and E46M3 has stirred the soul.
A couple of weeks ago drove a 2006 330i loaner for two days, serious world class performance, impressive three stage induction system makes 255hp feel like 300+hp; but once you walk 30 feet away and turn around, the smile turns to a cringe.

Reuters / June 20, 2005
FRANKFURT -- Porsche will make an announcement on a fourth model line shortly before the Frankfurt car show at the start of September, a company source told Reuters on Sunday.
The Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung reported on Sunday that Porsche Chief Executive Wendelin Wiedeking could announce the launch of the new line on Wednesday, when German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder is due to visit the company.
A spokesman for Porsche told Reuters, however, that that would definitely not be the case.
He also dismissed comments in the report that Porsche's works council and Wiedeking could sign an agreement at the start of the week guaranteeing the future of its operations in Germany.
"We are ultimately still in talks and both sides have agreed not to comment until they are concluded," he said.
Management want more more efficient working hours and shorter breaks, while staff are seeking job guarantees at German locations until 2009.
Porsche has been mulling whether to introduce another model line in addition to the Boxter roadster, Cayenne and 911 premium sports car for a while. Porsche has said a decision on a new model line would be taken in the summer.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and going from the number of BMW sales there are a lot of people that disagree with the ugly comments here. I personally dislike the Chrysler rear end on the 645 and despise the mess they made out of the 645 convertible (what are those, BATWINGS?), I have gotten used to the new front end design and no longer "cringe" when I see it. Time will tell/show me what the 2007 M3 V8 Coupe will look like but I doubt I won't buy one unless they tack batwings on the back of it!
I had a woman ask me what model Volkswagon I was driving the other day. Now of course she was clueless but park next to one sometime and squint while looking at the front ends...

As another BMW owner, I'm ashamed by the new designs as well. Too many lines and shapes the compete with each other.
Compare with MB (which I'm not crazy about - but the new SLK and CLS are much more appealing), BMW is going in the wrong direction....

I think it really depends on what you want. If you like gadgets such as heads up display, bluetooth, dozens of gear shifts modes, start sequence, electric everything then the M6 is probably for you. The 997, is still more of a raw sports car, with the handling to match. The M6 is just as impracticial as the M6 - look at the rear space in it. If you need a family car you should be looking at the M5.

After looking at the picture of the 6 series with the trunk open I wonder why some tuner has not made a lid that just follows the body lines. It would definitely clean up the rear end.

M6? No thanks. M5? No thanks. I know both will be great performers but they are just to ugly to buy. I'd rather have an E55 than an M5 anyday. As for the M6, I don't think I'd get a CLK55 over it, but maybe a CL500. BMW had such a good thing going for it design wise why the change in course? Is this the same company that designed the Mini Cooper, Range Rover, and Rolls Royce? All of which I think are very competent designs.

Do you see a 911 here in this 6-series silhouette?
Wierd how everybody is copying the 911 shape, huh? Especially since it was declared so "outdated" just a few years ago.

I was just about to post the same thing! I was shocked when I saw the new 6 in person. I opened the trunk and it improved the lines significantly and instantly reminded me why that shape was so much nicer!
