Anyone trade a 993 for a 997?
Hi guys and gals, I have a 98 993 ragtop and while I was never interested in trading her for a 996 - I will admit the 997 has my interest. Curious if anyone did the same.
Thanks!
Thanks!

No but I added a 997 to my 993!
The 997 is the same yet different than the 993, if that makes sense. Anyway the 997 is a better better performance car than the 993, but it lacks the "charm" of the 993. For some the 993 is the last "real" Porsche, whatever that means, I guess you can trace it original design, which was done by a real Porsche.

Sold my 1995 993C4 Cab last december and ordered a 997C2S in april.
ETA - August 2005....... and waiting impatiently
Everything I've read so far on the 997C2S is very positive, so my expectations are high. I hope it doesn't dissapoint.
90days +/- to go and counting.................

I've been considering it, but have not come to a delusion yet.
I am waiting to take some test drives and then I need to do some thinking. If I were to do it it, it would be because I would prefer to avoid having maintenance issues with my 993. Which, by the way, has been rock solid.
I am a little of the old school. My first real car was a sports car (Triumph TR-4A). To me a sports car should be a little loud, lacking creature comforts, and provide a primal sense of connection with the asphalt, as if you were on your hands and knees. In the the case of the TR-4A, the British also introduced the smell of oil and gasoline in to the cockpit.
My initial reaction to the 997 is that it loses some more of the sports car charm, but thankfully not nearly as much as the 996. The 993 already has added a little too many creature comforts for my taste, but I must be getting older since I grudgingly accept that. To me the 997 piles that on a little deeper.
As far as the interior goes, the 997 gauge set is probably the most vivid example of this. I really like the individual gauge set of the 911 and would miss that the most. The center console also takes away from the 911 flavor, to me.
Thankfully, Porsche has done a good job of hiding the cup holders! Cup holders and sports cars just don't go together in my opinion. They seem more fitting on a minivan than a world class sports car. When extended they look like a set of hand cuffs for thee passenger.
On the flip side it is hard to argue with the 997 performance. Clearly, Porsche has made the most of modern technology and that is probably the best thing about the 997 that keeps me interested and anxiously waiting for a test drive. It will probably make all of my little gripes recede under the floor mat once I get some seat time. Even if I don't bite for it this year. Someday I will need to trade up and from everything I have seen and heard so far, that may not be a bad thing.

I traded in my 96 993 cab and have a 997 July build on order. For me, the 996 did nothing for me and the 997 body style very much looks like the 993. Maintenence was a big factor as I knew my clutch was starting to slip (I babied her but I was not the original owner) and a big annual maintenance was due. This gave me the opportunity to trade up and spec a new one to my exact taste.

I traded my 97 993 Cab on a 997S Cab. Like you, the 996 never even tweeked my interest. My 993 was in excellent shape, with low miles (~37k). I got what I considered a descent trade value for my 993. The new car is a dealer configured car ordered in Feb, built ~ May 23 (was issued my VIN)...and hopefully it will be ONVESL this week. The car has all the options I would have ordered and a couple maybe I wouldn't have, but I'll learn to like those I'm sure!!!
