Post-delivery PSE Installation

Post-delivery PSE Installation
Earlier, I posted a message that I thought the sound of PSE was subtle. Well, that's because it wasn't wired in correctly at the shop. I took it back today, and for the first time, I heard it... and it is really, really nice.
However, the switch to turn the exhaust on works differently than the switch for the Sport Mode on the PASM. On the PASM, the led glows when the system is activated and the program shifts to "Sport". With the exhaust, the led on the switch glows when the system is off which is just the opposite of what you expect.
I'm still trying to figure out the logic of the PSE program. It seems to turn itself on and off in a somewhat random way. My dealer says it is throttle-position dependent, but I can't seem to see any connection there. So far, it just seems to have a mind of its own. Anybody have any experience with the 2005 PSE installed post-delivery?

Post delivery PSE
I had PSE installed on 997S Cab at dealer prior to delivery. My car also has Sport Chrono.
1. PSE is engaged by pressing the "sport" button.
2. When Sport button is engaged the Sport Chrono engine mapping occurs.
3. Also, the Sport Mode of PASM is engaged with the PASM led lighting.
I usually disengage the Sport PASM and leave the Chrono mapping and PSE engaged.
Works great-sounds even better.

In cars with sport chrono, the PSE is activated via the sport button, in cars withou sport chrno get an extra switch on the console for the PSE.
When the PSE is ON, it still turns itself off in between 50-85km/h aprox, this is in order for it to be legal since at those speeds is were they measure the amount of noise the exhaust makes. Since its kind off turns off at that speed, it passes the noise regulations, at least here in Europe.
Unlike the 996 PSE, the 997 PSE it doesn't turn off "completely" at those speeds, it depends on how much throttle you apply, the more throttle at those cut off speeds, the more it shuts off. This is why the 997 PSE is conected to the DME and the 996 wasn't.

There are many aftermarket exhausts for the 997 already available now but they just don't sound the same as Porsche's sport exhaust. So it depends how picky you are with the sound of your flat-6.
Also the on/off feature of the PSE is very useful.

Thanks, Carlos, for the explanation. I'll try to determine exactly how this exhaust pipe thinks, and it is probably as you say... but at this point, it just seems to have a mind of its own, cutting in and out depending upon its mood. Do Porsches have hormones?

Carlos, no that's not what I mean. I want it on all of the time, I do not plan on installing the switch, and would like to know if the default mode is on all the time.

No, what I am talking about is installing it on my car that does not have it from the factory. I do not plan on installing anything other than the mufflers, and the tips, and would like to know if the internal flaps would be open to sport mode, or not.

I am having my PSE installed this week and the dealer who is doing it told me that they could install it so that it is on all the time. I do have PASM and Chrono but I want it on all the time. I will let you know how it goes....

In the 996, the default mode was on all of the time; no electronics installed=always on. I believe the 997 version would be the same.
