Need a new engine
I think the mileage and oil change are a good possibility. If you use the fact that by the time the new engine is broken in you will need new rear tires then maybe they will do something. Start with new set, then new rears, then wholesale replacement costs.... you have nothing to lose!
Depends on the turn time for the new engine. If it were done already, I personally would take it. If, like jb's case, the new engine takes 20 days I wouldn't take it and I'd negotiate for two months. One month for the shop time and one month to break it in fully.
Still, it is fortunate that you're leasing because in the same situation what would Porsche offer someone who paid cash?

The dealer recv'd the engine today and promised to have the car done for Monday (Monday was my requested date as I'll be out of the country until then)...if it happens that way, the car will be out for one week.
I really wanted a set of tires! I may use Gary's suggestion and request wholesale price for a set?

I am still waiting for their check to reimburse me for over $300 for out of pocket expenses.
Did you find out why or what failed in your engine?
Ps I didnt get reimbursed for the time my car was out of service due to the System Fault Return To Workshop either.
I spoke with the Porsche guy and explained that while his offer was very fair, my lease payment was very low....therefore, a new set of tires thrown in would make everyone happy, including my wife who told me not to get a Porsche (I made this part up). He said he would speak to the dealer, and that he found my request resonable. A month's lease credit, refund of $240 oil change, and a set of tires. I'm ok with that.
Thanks Gary, It may be too late to go back to them, but I'll try. It's like spagehtti, I'll throw it against the wall and see if it sticks.
btw, I'm in Amsterdam where it's "Queen's Day" - a huge citywide celebration. I'll be home Monday night. Rgds.

They're not going to volunteer anything more than a very bare-bones, appeasement payment, so unless you ask for it you won't get it. It sounds like you're doing a good job dealing with a bad situation. You're not asking for anything outlandish, stand your ground and get what you deserve!

Came home last night form overseas and found the 997 in my garage (del by the dealer). For those that may have any interest, here's a short breakdowm:
1. According to the service report the car had a "..intermed. shaft nut broken..."
2. The car was out of service for 5 working days.
3. The final settlement was 2 months lease credit and $240 refund for the last oil change.
4. The Porsche engine cost, on the service paper, shows $9,851 plus $770 in fright. It also showed a $2327 credit for return of the "core" to Porsche.
5. I drove to New York this morning 70+ miles and the car ran great.
Thanks to all for your advise and support with this.....may it never happen to you!
