I know I could RTFM, but the car's in the shop for the infamous System Fault message and it occured to me that when I hit the up button for the passenger window, unless the window is about half way up already, the window will not automatically raise to its full up position. I.e., if the window were fully open and I pushed the button to the full up position, the window will move up as long as I have my finger on the button. When I let it go, the window stops. If the window is more than half closed, it will close the rest of the way with a quick jab to the full up position on the button. The driver's window seems to work fine. Anyone else notice a difference in the operation of their automatic up button position on their passenger window? TIA.

Yea that's just how the window works. Not sure what the reason is. The passenger window will only go up once it is past half way. I find it kind of annoying. I'm sure someone here knows the reason for it. At least it goes down all the way with one touch.

It 's gotta be a safety thing.

I read a few months back of a number of toddlers have been tragically pinched
when hanging out the window of a parked car with keys in ignition from
inadvertently pushing auto-window up control.

I can't imagine what parent would leave their child unbelted AND unattended with the keys in ignition.

wondering does it behave the same way when your passenger uses the window lift on the passenger side?

It is a safety thing. TUV, the safety group in Germany is pretty funny about some of it's requirements.

Dumb *** car. I bitched about this problem twice until they finally said "that's the way it is". Why bother to have an automatic up, for the last 4 inches.

That part probably cost me $ 300.00. I can get better automatic up value with Viagra.

I agree it's a pain, But it's interesting that I had a new Boxster S as a loaner, and the passenger side works one touch up, and down from any window position. So is that to say the Boxster is not as safe as the 997?

This has to be the reason. The passenger window in the 996 has the express raise feature but the button is on the center console where, presumably, a child hanging out the window can't operate it. The buttons on the 997 are on the door and I guess a kid could operate the window while his head is sticking out.

My question is why Porsche did away with the ability to raise and lower the cabriolet top with the key in the door. I find that really convenient on my 996 when I have packages I'm going to dump in the back seat and I don't have to futz with opening the car, moving the front seat, getting in and then lowering the top.

After I read this I went out ot my car and checked. My windows in the front are fine and raise and lower the way I would expect. There is no halt from any position. My rears are manual however.

Is this a Cab vs Coupe thing or do you all notice it with Cabs too?

I'll check my build date this afternoon, maybe it has been changed recently.

What I mean, my OC antagonist is that I must keep the buttons pressed to continue motion for the rears, but not for the fronts.

I think it's just the So Cal Porsches that get the extra safety devices, broader learning curves out there.
