Default Clear film protection on rear fender area.

Did your 997 come with clear film on front section of the rear fender area? I've seen some cars with the film at the dealership, but mine doesn't have it and I am already getting rock chips.

Strange its not on yours - could they have simply forgotten to put it on? I haven't paid much attention but a friend with an 03 C4S (and previous p-cars) pointed out to me that they have gone back to film on the front section of the rear quarter panel, like they used to do - don't think it was on 996's.

Do you know if this is something the dealer puts on? I will be calling those bastards tomorrow. I have 4 rock chips on both sides.

Yeah, the front side or the rear wheel-wells protrudes well out and can easily catch a pebble or two... The dealers or the factory could've forgotten to put it on...

That is strange. Even the new Boxster has it.

I have seen the film on 997/987 as the cars come off the truck. So it is not something the dealer puts on. Must be done at the factory. Is it missing on both sides.

Here is was it looks like on a 987.

Even if it is supposed to be done by the factory, shouldn't the dealer have noticed and fixed it when they did their inspection of the car prior to delivery??

Here is a picture of a then new 2004 Turbo cab I took last year at my dealer. My mechanic friend was preparing the car and noticed something was not right. Told me to go out back and take a look. Guess what got out of the factory?

Well, for one thing, you have a tiptronic steering wheel with a six-speed shifter. Please tell me that was it -- I can't bear to hear if it was more than that.

That is it. Left the factory that way. Went through PDI at the port. The car sat a few days at my dealer so PCNA could figure out what to do. The customer had to wait. We had a good laugh. Looked at the transmission to see if it was a tip or manual. We even looked at the engine to make sure it was a turbo engine.

I would say that it was the tip steering wheel that shouldn't be there. If it were actually a tiptronic they would have caught it at the factory, not being to shift it otherwise.

Mine has it.

LOL on the Tip steering wheel with a 6-speed. I'd love to see the built sheet on that one!!!
