Default 997 or 997S

Hello everyone,

Back in 2000, during the dot com boom, I was fortunate enough to get my first 996cab. As the boom became a bust, sadly, I had to sell my 911.

5 years later, more mature and financially secure, I want to reward myself with another 911. Which one do I deserve? a 997, 997s, 997cab?

I've never driven a turbo, will never track my car, and I don't even drive a manual very well. So i'm not one of those performance drivers. I just like to press on the gas and go!

Should I even consider a used 996turbo or 996 4s? For me, both newer and older looks very nice. I did like the cab, the rattling was kind of annoying, but I think I would go for the hardtop SL500 if I truly wanted a convertible. I fondly remember smiling ear to ear, everytime I stepped into, driving and exiting my 996cab.

Any advice for a returning porsche buyer? 997 or 997s?

I personally don't like the cabs so my vote is the 997S.

If I wanted a car like you want (convertible, auto, not driven hard) I would not even think about it. I'd get an SL500. It's a no brainer. Gorgeous car, tons more equipment for the money, etc.

Three things:

1) Do a search here and other forums about what people think of the 997 and S - in other words get educated.

2) Go test drive the 997 back-to-back with the S - your opinion counts as you're going to be putting the money down unless the "experts" are going to fund it for you.

3) Make sure you drive an SL500, an SC430, a Boxster S, a 996 Cab, a DB7 Vantage, a Maserati Spider, and even an older 355 or very early 360 Spider. You're spending a lot of money so make sure the choice you make is a choice you want to live with. Nothing worse than looking over your shoulder for the next 3 years...

You can have an S if you wait a long time. I think production is scheduled all teh way into September. You can get a non-S now, probably sitting on a lot somewhere for the past week.
