Yes. It is a Porsche, not a Lexus.

It depends what you mean by a rough idle. The engine's idle will normally vary +/- 40 rpm's. that is not rough. Mine purrs like a kitten with and occasional period of a very slight roughness.

by rough, i mean u can actaully feel the engine rumbling behind you. kinda hard to explain. the rpm's dont fluctuate or anything like that. i guess the best comparison would be like the feeling of a big block chevy rumbling, where it feels like the engine is barely turning over. but of course its not to that extent.

That is not normal. You aren't babying the car are you? Go and and beat the crap out of it and see if there is an improvement.

1999: You're right. I had a rough idle problem this morning, accompanied by the engine light. On the way to the dealer to get a loaner for the weekend, I drove it hard it, and by the time I got there it was idling fine. The light went out an hour or so later.

That light was the spirit of PORSCHE himself, telling you to enjoy his car by driving it the way he intended it to be driven. He will come back to haunt you again if you baby it once more.

Mine has the rough starting idle that someone had posted earlier. Goes away after a few seconds. But at first it was disconcerting. As far as rough idling, the 997 is a lot smoother than the 993.

Just goes to show you how amazing these cars are. You need to forget everything you know about other makes. It's a new experience...

Just read a review in Excellence on the CGT. They said they weren't very happy that the V10 engine sounds like fifty different odd nerve-wracking noises were being generated at idle. They just accepted it and attributed it to being typical for Porsche. Go figure.

I've noticed my passenger seat (when empty) visibly shakes when my 997S is stationary, eg at traffic lights. Anyone else get this? This is also my first Porsche, so no experience to gage against.
