Bose Stereo
You know what they say... no highs, no lows, it must be Bose! Seriously, Bose is anything but audiophile quality, they're a marketing machine. My older Carrera has an Ecilpse head unit and power amps (1000 watts) with Dynaudio speakers. There is no sound the engine can make that will mask the output of that system. If it wasn't for the fact that the "S" will be traded in on a new Turbo in the next two years I would do something to upgrade the Bose. I've had worse.
I don't know about the rest of you but I spend most of my time with the system off and the drivers window down so I can hear the symphony coming from the engine bay!

I had a super Nakamichi system in my 911 years ago with an ADS amplifier and ADS and Nakamichi speakers, and their Nakamichi 10-CD remote (which I put under the driver's seat). Was an incredible system,--I hope the Bose can get close to it.

Oh, and I make some good coin playing music so I would like to think I have a decent set of ears.
As with everything, it depends on what you are listening too and at what volumes...

For the 997, I'd just go Bose and be done with it. I don't want anyone cutting into the delicate Porsche electronics. And you supposed "audiophiles" need a reality check as the 997 has so much road noise that any high end system you put will be compromised, so basically you're just doing it to impress others.
On another board, some guy just did a laundry list of this amp and this speaker that he put into his 997, all highend expensive stuff, but he used speaker level inputs from the PCM! Hilarious!

The interaction between road/engine/Bose sound has a huge effect on what you hear. Just give me a multi-band equalizer (more than just the treble/bass boost or cut that we have now in the Bose) so that I can adjust things to suit my personal tastes. Because much of the engine noise is in the 3,000 to 5,000 Hz range - and most music is in the same range - there is a pychoacoustic mid-range suck-out that results. If I could just tweak those frequences with a 10-band or 20-band EQ, that's really all I need.

It is the product of Becker, a division of Harmon/Kardon International. They are exclusive OEM supplier of MOST headunits to PAG.
