I think there is a substantial market for the type of OEM Bose interface / upgrade that Roadking is talking about. Keep us posted!

You know what they say... no highs, no lows, it must be Bose! Seriously, Bose is anything but audiophile quality, they're a marketing machine. My older Carrera has an Ecilpse head unit and power amps (1000 watts) with Dynaudio speakers. There is no sound the engine can make that will mask the output of that system. If it wasn't for the fact that the "S" will be traded in on a new Turbo in the next two years I would do something to upgrade the Bose. I've had worse.

I don't know about the rest of you but I spend most of my time with the system off and the drivers window down so I can hear the symphony coming from the engine bay!

Wow, this is just the upgrade we need. sign me up! On these cars esp. ones with crono and nav you are stuck forever with the head unit as it itergrates with both systems

I had a super Nakamichi system in my 911 years ago with an ADS amplifier and ADS and Nakamichi speakers, and their Nakamichi 10-CD remote (which I put under the driver's seat). Was an incredible system,--I hope the Bose can get close to it.

Oh, and I make some good coin playing music so I would like to think I have a decent set of ears.

As with everything, it depends on what you are listening too and at what volumes...

BTW, the same amplifier is used in all MY03+ Porsches and some Audi vehicles (A8, A6) and the Mercedes Maybach. It is scheduled to stay in production until 2008 when the next amplifier is slated to be put into production by Porsche.

BTW, I've heard the guy who designed the Bose MOST DSP amplifier is brilliant and he wouldn't do something stupid unless that's what the customer wanted

Is your company a member of the MOST Cooperation? Do you have OEM license agreements in place?

Best of luck with your work. Please post a link to the website, as it sounds very interesting.

For the 997, I'd just go Bose and be done with it. I don't want anyone cutting into the delicate Porsche electronics. And you supposed "audiophiles" need a reality check as the 997 has so much road noise that any high end system you put will be compromised, so basically you're just doing it to impress others.

On another board, some guy just did a laundry list of this amp and this speaker that he put into his 997, all highend expensive stuff, but he used speaker level inputs from the PCM! Hilarious!

Default Just give me an equalizer

The interaction between road/engine/Bose sound has a huge effect on what you hear. Just give me a multi-band equalizer (more than just the treble/bass boost or cut that we have now in the Bose) so that I can adjust things to suit my personal tastes. Because much of the engine noise is in the 3,000 to 5,000 Hz range - and most music is in the same range - there is a pychoacoustic mid-range suck-out that results. If I could just tweak those frequences with a 10-band or 20-band EQ, that's really all I need.

Just a minor note, the headunit (which provides only bass/treble as you describe) has NOTHING to do with Bose.
It is the product of Becker, a division of Harmon/Kardon International. They are exclusive OEM supplier of MOST headunits to PAG.
