OK guys, 20 inches is getting a bit ridiculous - can you say "Bling"...
There is no performance advantage to having huge 20" wheels with rubber bands for tires, they weigh too much and are impractical for normal use. People on the track still race with 18" wheels, bling doesn't make the car any faster. On a Cayenne, fine - slap on some 24s and cruise around like a rapper... But if I see a 997 with 20 inch wheels on the street, I instantly know that person is not interested in performance, only impressing people.

That said, yeah they look pretty cool.

I have been pondering new wheels. A good place to look is wheelenhancement.com; their site has lots and lots of wheels for p-cars and they now have photos of examples with most of their wheel choices. There are several 997's in there. The Champion RS98's are interesting to me, but I have a hard time really falling in love with anything so far.

Hey pcar 964 did you know that 18" wheels are a no no on a 95 993 not until 96 was the car changed to allow for the 18's ........ are you not interested in maximum preformance if you are you have the wrong year 993 to have 18's on it .

A bit testy today Sobe?

I love bling and I agree the 20's are awesome to look at but ridiculous to performance drive with....

I took 19's off my 996 that previous owner had on and saved a bunch of weight with the carrera light weights...

My new 997 has the 19's though and I am thinking of getting 18's for autocross use...

I think the 20" Tech Arts wheels are beautiful and takes the 997 to a place that Porsche does not seem to be able to take it . I just saw those pictures of Porsches new aero kit for the 997 and it is awful . I believe that it is going to take after-market companies to really bring out the potential that the 997 has when it comes to the look of the car . The twisters back in 96 gave the 993 new life and that wheel carried on right through the 996 era . Porsche needs a new wheel that would accomplish a similar effect on the 997 . I do not think a company like Tech Arts would bey stupid enough to put out wheels that would ruin the performance of the 997 .

Sobe you might want to do some research before you try and "teach" me something. The 95 993s ARE approved for 18" wheels if you add the steering column support found on the 96-and later cars, which mine has.

And guess what, 951s and 3.2 Carreras are NOT approved for 17 inch wheels, but they IMPROVE the performance of the cars... I don't care if Porsche "approves" them or not.

If you want to run 20 inch wheels on your 997, go ahead - but I'd love to see you at the track being passed by someone with "little 18s" that are probably 5 lbs lighter each, unsprung weight. And YES, those 20" Techarts WILL DECREASE performance, whether you want to believe it or not.

Like I said, they might look good, but that's the extent of their usefulness.

20 inch wheels are ridiculous. Not to mention how harsh the ride must be and the vulnerability to damage. Pretty soon every car on the road is going to look like a tonka toy. All wheels and nothing else. is it just me or is everyone trying to compensate for something by going bigger? lol. what happened to the emphasis on body design?

I do not need to do research , when I bought a new 993 C4 in 95 the factory put out a memo that said 18" wheels would void certain parts of the warranty becuase the car ( all 95 993's) was not made for 18" wheels and they could damage the suspension . This little note came from the Porsche factory and went out to all dealers in 95 and I did not want to hurt the car or risk loosing warranty coverage . Since warranty is no longer an issue and you have a modification that lets you use 18" wheels safely did you not do all of this for cosmetic reasons .
