800 miles and low oil level?
I have 831 miles on my 997 and my oil measuring sensor shows 1 bar. Is it normal to have so little oil after 800 miles? I haven't been driving the car THAT hard... I have been staying under 4200 RPMs for the most part. I have been reading that the oil level could read erroneously low because of the dry-sump in the 911. I am getting the low oil reading 30 minutes after turning the engine off from a spirited driving session. Sorry if this is a n00b question.
Finally, what type of oil should I use? Standard Mobil 1 Synthetic?

Engine level is low after I was driving the car. I noticed it initially after I filled the car up with gas. Will waiting for the car to cool off give me a more accurate reading?

If you fill it, just keep an eye on things. Of course don't overfill.

The 997 does not have a dry sump. The GT3 does.
Anyway, my 997S has just over 4000 miles. I drive it hard. Have had it on the track a few times. DID NOT follow break in procedure exactly. No oil loss! Maybe the launch cars aren't so bad after all.

Hello riotgear,
You should read the oil level when engine is warm [but you already know that].
Did you notice how many segments where filled in when you got your car?
How many segments are filled in today? if two of them are, it's ok; if only one is, you should add some Mobil 1 0W-40 supersyn before the segment flashes in.
If you need a comparison, my car had 2 segments filled in when I got it; she has 2000 miles now and still has 2 filled in segments.

I didn't know the 997 didn't have a dry sump. Zacharie. My car had 2 segments filled in when I got it. It now has one. Thanks, you guys are very helpful. My local Kragen has 0W-40 Mobil 1 in stock according to their web site. I'll buy some once I return from my business trip.

When I took delivery (12 miles on the clock) the oil level was one segment down from the top. At 1,000 miles I was a couple of segments below that. I added a half-quart of oil to bring it back up to the level it was when I picked up the car.

I'm at around 3600 miles and have not had to add any oil yet. Just this past week it went down one segment. Then a day later is showed down 2 segments. The next day only one segment. I'm not sure if the guage is having issues or what but it seems to fluctuate a bit from day to day. Anyone else seeing this?

Yes I have noticed something like that:
After a long drive, if I switch off the motor and check the oil level immediately [5 min later in fact], I have 3 filled in segments. After a short drive, I can observe 2 filled in segments.
Perhaps it has something to do with oil viscosity? or maybe that the oil level is at the edge between 2 and 3 segments. Most of the time, 2 filled in segments prevails.

Hey Robert, I grab this pic from Porsche AG actually...I squeezed it and the arctic silver became whitish don't know why. I have a nice real photograph of my arctic silver car with my puppy dog striking a pose next to my car, but the picture doesn't fit the format of the avatar. I could do it but you will be asking what's that strange animal next to the car.
I agree that white Carrera looks great: it was my first choice before I turn to arctic. I have been said that white is difficult to keep in shape for long years and some part tend to become a bit yellow. Don't know if it's true. Most important thing is I am so happy with my arctic silver. I read many of your posts, you seem to really enjoy your black Carrera.
