Washing your cars when it's 10 degrees out
#17
It was about 15 this afternoon when I washed my car. We have a very good completely brushless, automatic spray wash here in State College. Drive up, stick your credit or debit card into the machine, the door opens, drive in, get sprayed by a zillion jets of water, drive out. It's not perfect, but it gets the job done. Also, instead of tracks it just has outer guide rails that can accomodate a car much wider than my C2. Alternatively, I use the self spray wash, but I find it doesn't get the car clean enough. When they're not busy they will let you bring a bucket and mitt, and hand wash the car using their spray equipment as a soap and water source. I generally take the attitude that if I'm gonna drive in the winter, the car's gonna be dirty most of the time. I didn't buy it to turn it into a garage queen.

I spent $600 and put a radiant heater in my garage. Never too cold now. I already had hot and cold water and a drain.
I have also used the high presure spray car wash units. There are no tracks so the size of the wheels won't matter.

I have to rinse with the bucket too...it's a pain, but it sure beats being outside in the 10 degree air.

Last week it was 12 degrees, my car was covered in salt/mud, I had to get it off. None of the local CW places wanted to do it, so I did it! (BTW a hand job runs about 35$ on LI...the car type).
I had my son relay buckets of hot water to me in the driveway while I hand washed it, It nearly froze as I poured it on. Then I pulled it inside the garage to finish it off. My wife, neighbors think I'm a maniac!
I couldn't take it anymore!

Hey, I don't have a garage, so my neighbors see me out on the street with a bucket of hot water and some bright yellow rubber gloves. I wait for those few nanoseconds when it's 32F or more and do all 3 cars as quickly as possible; I rinse off the salt and dirt with the water, then go over the cars with Meguiars Quick Detailer (with constant passers-by saying "Hey, can you do mine next?"). Then again, each car has a 32 oz. spray bottle and clean towel in it for a spritz and wipe whenever. When people asks how I keep them looking so nice, my gf always jumps in and says "Simple - he's insane."
