Question Oil Pressure

Coming from a Boxster I am not to failure with the oil pressure gauge and the oil temperature gauge. My understanding is that the oil pressure should be around 3.5 at 5k RPM. Well mine is reading 4.5 at idle and 5 when driving. The car is only a few days old with just over 100 miles on it. Is this something that settles in with the new car? Or should I call my dealer already?

Mine is the same as well.

Gary, how soon are you expecting that 2006 M3? FYI, the next generation is about two years away and will be 2007s.

Normal operating range is as follows:

COLD ENGINE: Above 4.5 - probably pegged to 5 at idle
Fully warmed engine: 1.5 -2 at Idle, above 4 - 4.5 above 3,000 rpm

Alan -
"Looking" for it around the end of 2005 as thats what a friend that works at the local dealer has hinted at, but I guess whenever it comes it comes! Not buying whats out now, it hasn't made much progression since 2001 (almost identical to our 01 330Ci in looks). I wasn't impressed with its performance either, but we compared it to a 635 at the time (and I drive a C2S) so maybe I wasn't being very objective.
Love the 330, has been a great, trouble free car for 90K+ miles so far.

Just poked around the BMW forum and the general concensus is that the next M3 may be an E90 and the E46 will die, OR it will be an M4, OR it will not come out until mid-2006 as a 2007.. One guy said he saw Elvis driving a prototype with a seven cylinder..

My dealer gave me a great answer this morning. He told me oil pressure is like money.... more is good and you don't have to spend it all at once.

Yeah it's home safe actually got to drive it twice since then. My car is covered in junk from the road I have hosed it off so not to do any damage but will get it washed Saturday morning and then post some pics. I actually was able to land a set of 19 inch winter conti tires this morning, so can't wait to get those bad boys straped on.

Excellent! I'm kind of looking around for some 18" wheels to put "auxillary" tires on, most likely something sticky for DE's and Auto-X (should I decide to indulge). Are you a CVR member? WHile I'll be in Miami for the 2/1 meeting in Fairfield I will be at the DE Workshop on 2/19 and subsequent meets. Will sign up for March DE at Limerock the minute I can too! Maybe see you 2/19?

Be safe!
