Default How much installed?

When I get my 997S in a few weeks I am going to install a radar detector. I have chosen the k-40. (Not looking to get into the k-40 valentine debate again ) Was just wondering what some of you paid too have yours installed. I am getting the k-40 full dash install with front and rear defuser. My dealership wants to chare me $1800 for it. Was wondering if they have a big markup in there or if that sounds about right. Thanks for the input.

Sounds a little steep. Another post on Flatline-6 mentioned a Passport SR something or other--same configuration with front/rear gizmos + remote unit located near the gear shifter for $1,500.00. Looked like a quality job and the fellow stated that he was very particular about his car. Hope that helps and good luck.

you can do it yourself quite easily. I have Laser diffusor and front radar receiver installed (under the license plate area and then route the cable to the dash. Just find a spot for your control unit. A few holes. You can do it all under a few hundred bucks. Search the ebay for K40. You can find some for a lot less than $1800.

Nice detector. you don't need to pay the retail price. I believe any stereo shop can do it for you if you don't time to put them on.

You may be able to do it but I don't know ANYTHING about it and wouldn't dare do it to my new car. I was just wondering if my dealership is takeing a pice of this or if it is just the cost of who ever they higher to do it.

K-40 may have distributors in your area also. They can do it for you. K-40 requires some knowledge about the wiring etc. You need to know where and what types of inline fuse box to use etc. I spent a few hours reading the manual before I did it. Made some mistakes and re-wires etc. About 2 - 3 hours job. Mostly labor. The hardware is not that expensive. Porsche dealer labor cost is $300 per hour in SF bay area (yes, they are expensive) I would say $1800 is about right for the whole thing.

Overall I am happy with it. Totally invisible. No small box (V1? Passport?) on your visor or wiring through pillars. Just one control **** and two LCDs on my front control. Hard to tell you have the radar and laser installed.

K40 usually ends up being 1200-1500 depending on the installer

its probably easier to just get a V1. not to mention most people consider the V1 superior in detecting. (although it does false often)

Check with K40 and some of the other shops in your area. Find an authorized installer. Most independents can do it for under $1400 installed, defuser and all. It's not rocket science, but a professional install can't be beat.
