So I bought a car today . . .
After months of internal debate about whether or not to buy a car . . . what car to buy . . . in the US or Canada . . . new or used . . . I decided and made a decision.
Here's what I ordered:
Carrera S Coupe
Atlas Grey Met.
Black Full Leather
Black Mats Porsche Lettering
Heated Front Seats
Power Seats
Bose High End Stereo
Sport Chrono Pkg. Plus
Carbon Pkg.
19" Carrera Classic Wheel
March build. late April/early May delivery.
The first year thing scares me a little (but it's a later build) and hopefully the RMS thing won't be rearing it's ugly head but I'm looking forward to it. My first new car!
Woo Hoo!!!

Congrats! Nice color and options. Did you consider the adaptive sport seats? I really like them a lot. Keep in mind you don't need the power seat package if you get the adaptive sport seats, so the additional cost is only about $1,100.

Crazy canuck,
Congratulations on your purchase. Pretty good timing as well, you will have it just as the roads are getting warm. I have been following your posts as I have been going through very similar debates (Canada/US, 996 Turbo, 997S etc.), not to mention the fact that I live very close to Ottawa.
If my memory serves me correclty, you looked at cars in Toronto. In the end did you purchase from a Toronto dealer or your local Ottawa dealer? From my research, it would appear the TO dealers have more selection in stock than my local Montreal dealers and much more than the Ottawa dealer.
Also, was the dealer willing to move on the MSRP for the car?
thanks,

What makes you think RMS issues have been resolved? There are guys with '04-'05 cars having RMS probs on this board. The 3.6 L is the same, the 3.8L, essentially the same(M96). I see no evidence that the issue has been resolved at all. Not until they build an entire new engine(GT1).

it's too early to say the 'new' 997 has rms problems. fwiw, my local shop (andial) sees 3-times more rms jobs on 993s than 996s. given enough use, every car, regardless of origin and mfr, will have an rms problem.

what do you mean "every car regardless of origin and manufacturer". I've junked several cars with close to 200K miles each, never had an oil seal replaced on any of them.
the 2004 Motor Trend long term 996 test car has this leak. this is going to big deal when owners with cars out of warranty start having to do this on their dime.

by defintion, all seals leak to some degree. most 'sweat' and do not drip oil. this is still a leak. i've sold a bmw w/ 300k miles, the new owner now has 375k, it sweats oil everywhere you can name, but no drips.

but this RSM thing is more then a sweat, right?
I'm wondering, the people having it done on the 996 under warranty, is it a permanent fix? is the replacement seal better then the original? or is there some design issue that makes this problem likely to re-occur again and again?
