Default Nav System - Added Later?

My dealer is assuring me that I can add the navigation system to a 997 not so equipped that he has on his lot when the part becomes available in a few months. Anyone happen to know whether this is the case, or is it just "please buy this one now; I'll say anything."

Thanks.

Yes...I believe that the Nav system is an easy retrofit for 997's delivered without the option...Cost is another matter altogether.

I was told the same thing by my dealer. I got the one on the showroom floor as well and it was not included. When I asked that question the service manager said it would be out in a few months and is an easy install. Not sure what the price will be though.

The guestimate on rennteam.com was that the aftermarket oem nav would cost around $3,000...I have no idea if that is an accurate price or not.

The salesman checked with the service department and said list on the part was $2,600, but they did not know how much it would cost to install. They did not have any literature on it. This made me worry whether the part was just a replacement part, or whether it could be installed on this car.

I was told the same thing. It should be avialable either December or January. I'm not absolutely certain but I think it just plugs in as opposed to being a major install. I was told it slots next to the CD in the trunk compartment labeled DVD.

You could always get a 3rd party system like my Pioneer AVIC-N1 system for half that price...more options..

Do a search on 996 PCM add on and you'll get an idea of the labor. I think you are looking at big bucks. If you want it, better get it right off the bat. It'll be cheaper and less less headache.

Aftermarket units (Pioneer, Kenwood, Eclipse) won't be compatible with MOST. You can put these in but they will not be tied to your stereo, you'll be using the stock HU for music and the aftermarket HU will be only for NAV only.

Or have the dealer include it on your sale (to be added on later) for an agreed upon price before you sign the contract
