Here's the way I see it:

Pros: beauty, exclusiveness, V8 sound and tq, front/mid engine layout, 50/50 weight balance,

Cons: reliability, servicing costs, dealer access, limited/non-existent aftermarket, limited repariability due to aluminum chassis (and likely obscene insurance rates), AM more of a GT maker than sports car maker

I don't know about you guys, but I've been in lust with this car since the initial spy pics. The kind of car that'll make one sleep in the garage with one hand on the front fender just to reinforce you own it.

Man that's beautiful. But, as much as it is a bit ridiculous to say for me at least, the 997S is more "economical" if that term can be applied here. But, if I had the funds, I'd get BOTH!

the vantage will weigh close to--if not more than--4,000 lbs. the better comparison is between the vantage and something like an sl55.

I can't speak for other dealers, but Star in Houston says they have 26 people on the wait list, and they expect 35 cars in the first production year. Deposit is $5,000, and the demo is due in next July.

There's no doubt in my mind that price and weight will both be a lot more than the initial estimates. Keep in mind that the AMV8 is built on the same new aluminum platform as the $165k, 4,000lb DB9.

I'll bet anyone a dollar it ends up being $130k and 3,600lbs. With the projected 350-380hp, it will not be competitive with the 997S in terms of price or performance. It is beautiful, though...

Well, my C4S goes back to the dealer today or tomorrow as an early trade for the 997S (awaiting Sport Suspension availability). It's looking like the Sport Suspension option for the 997S will not be available in the US for some time, and is not retrofittable into a PASM car. I'll be back in my M3 forthe the time being, while (hopefully) the Sport Suspension is released and at the same time we find out how heavy, powerful, and agile the baby-Aston really is.

Hopefully by spring we know how good this car is going to be.

I recall one of the publications (I think automotive weekly) had an article some months back including a pic of the 997 next to the Aston, and the article talked about how the Aston is supposed to be a 997-beater. We shall see.

I saw the article, too. Pure speculation, especially at the beginning of the year when that article was written. Indeed, we shall see.
