I just spoke with B & M Racing products & they plan on having a short throw shifter for the 997 available in about 6 months from now. I have one in my 996 & it works well.

Richard, have you tried the shifter in the 997 yet? I ask because the one in my 997 S feels much nicer than my Boxster with a B&M short shift kit does, and it's a relatively short-throw. The Boxster (and 996) needed a short-shift kit to get rid of the "floppy" shifter, but the 997 seems to be improved greatly.

The new car is definitely a lot better than the 996, but the distance can be reduced and the friction in the shifter itself can be reduced as well since Porsche just uses a lubed metal/plastic pivot junction. -Pete
