Brief news from trip to Bayern and Stuttgart
Folks-
Spent the last week visiting the factory and several dealerships around Munich. Here is some feedback:
(1) Dealers - The Munich central dealership had hundreds of 911s, segregated into the various 996 MYs and types. They were discounting several models, including the late model 996 Carrera 4S, and the recent GT3 (what you call mk II). Still, cars were in general more expensive than here - for example, my ordered 997S was listed at 100K euros, whereas I am paying $85KUS configured with exactly the same options. The deutsch dealers seem really to be pushing the 996 and its variants, with very few 997s on display.
(2) The factory gossip (from what I could tell - I have somewhat of an "in", since I am the US VP of a european company that is a subcontactor). Here are some tidbits:
-The new GT3RS WILL be based on the 997S 3.8 L engine as has been now widely reported in the european press. I asked about the dry sump, and they have claimed that it will not be the GT1 block in any configuration, but that's all I could get in terms of news about that. The 997 Turbo looks great but there will be some substantial delays in terms of production dates, according to several folks I talked with. Maybe it is worth waiting, but it may be some time before realease.
That's all for now. I have more information is there is any interest.
